The little one finished her first tennis lesson.
and now wishing she was at track & field
Yesterday my kid start imagining what kind of wings she would have. Dragonfly, butterfly, angel, etc. Of course she preferred butterfly.
She goes on to say her wings have a magic power to reflect her mood-- yellow-- happiness, orange-- anxiety, red-- anger, blue-- sad, green–disgust… I don’t point out the drawbacks to this power.
Then today, she says her wings actually reflect a mood pattern. Every hour is represented by a stripe along her butterfly wings, and every day is a sort of column. So that if she were to have a row of 14 dark blue dots halfway up, with lighter blue splotches above, it would reflect the fact that she had been sad midday for the last 2 weeks, with a deeper sadness giving way to a softer sadness.
Beautiful. Glad you are enjoying and appreciating her.
I was too busy working and travelling to fully appreciate my four children’s early years. As a result I have engaged as closely with my grandkids growing up as with my own kids.
Every age is wonderful! My two youngest granddaughters are two years old which is a wonderful age. However my oldest granddaughter, who will soon be 21, is still a delight to me. Probably because I spent so much time with her when she was little? Not trying to sound transactional, but the time spent reading and doing stuff with them when they are little pays off.
if my kid started with the first sentence you typed, it would end in buffalo, BBQ, or jerk. but the middle would still match.
eldest explained “Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo” to me yesterday. We got it! By changing instances of “buffalo” or “Buffalo” to something more understandable, then changing a word or two at a time to get there.
My son runs cross country. He’s been whittling away at his time, shaving off more than a minute from the start of the season to his meet a few days ago. Today he PRed, dropping more than a minute from his last meet. I could see the determination in his face when he realized he might break 19 minutes.
Cross country and track are great for this. You see kids learn to be competitive with themselves (if not others). Congrats
My daughter (12) walks to school with friends from the neighborhood. Often I walk with her to where they meet, and another dad and I chat for a minute or two after they leave.
Earlier this week, they were walking and passed a garbage bin that had been knocked over by the wind. My daughter stopped and put the bin upright.
Really, a small thing, but made me proud.
Our daughter is the only girl in her under 5s soccer team.
Can run rings around most of the boys in the team. She definitely has a future in sports from what I could see as
she is very strong for her age.
Got a good snap of her taking a PK.
Could the goalie get any further into the net lol.
I think the goalie is required to be on the goal line until the ball is kicked.
Edit: from Wikipedia, so you know you’re getting the best possible information—“ The goalkeeper is allowed to move before the ball is kicked, but must remain on the goal-line between the goal-posts, facing the kicker, without touching the goalposts, crossbar, or goal net. At the moment the kick is taken, the goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, or in line with, the goal line.”
Went to watch my 17 year old grandson play volleyball at a tournament today. He is the captain of his team and is an awesome player (like his grandpa was in high school). The matches were played in a velodrome. (Photo below).
My grandson is in his final year of high school with close to a 100% average. He is our only child or grandchildren who excels at math despite both my wife and I being math majors. Sadly he will not become an actuary as he wants to be a doctor. Guess that is not too bad a second choice.
Wanting to be a doctor <> will be a doctor. There’s still hope!
He will take a variety of maths and sciences in his undergraduate programs so we shall see.
He just got into an after-hours program starting in November that exposes high school students to an aspect of medicine. That may affect his thinking. Description of this year’s program is below.

I’ve seen volleyball in a velodrome, down near The LA Galaxy play. The cyclists are fun to watch.
Fun facts i found while between matches:
1934 Olympics track cycling was held at The Rose Bowl.
The 1984 Olympics track cycling was held at a Velodrome where the LA Galaxy now play.
That is all.
He managed to knock off a couple more seconds on his next 5k, although he didn’t do well this past race. (He admitted doing legs at the gym 2 days before wasn’t the best idea.) However, I think he’s still in 7th place on his team (varsity squad is top 7), so he should be going to the invitational this upcoming weekend.
My son’s odyssey is finishing as he is due to arrive home to Vancouver this week after four and a half months on the road.
Thanks to the kindness of strangers, friends and family, plus various modes of transportation, my son made it to St. John’s, Newfoundland in early October. After Nfld, he journeyed all the way to Key West, Florida even though two hurricanes disrupted his plans.
He then bused to New Orleans and took Amtrak to Chicago and then to Minneapolis where he is currently meeting a friend. He takes Amtrak to Seattle tomorrow and then on to Vancouver by the end of this week. We urged him to splurge on Amtrak roomettes for his overnight legs so he has been piling up the points with them.
As his father, I always worry about people taking advantage of him as his disabilities are visibly obvious. However the opposite happened on his trip as many strangers in the US and Canada helped him as the need arose. There are still a lot of good people out there!
We will not be here to greet him on his arrival as my wife and I go to Ontario tomorrow in regard to the pending sale of our Ontario farm. However two of his sisters will be here and we do have a friend of one of our daughters camping in our basement for another few weeks.
In recent days, we detected an element of homesickness in his communications so we think he has accelerated his return by a few weeks. Just will be good to have him safely back.
My niece just got her RMT licence and starts working next week!!
daughter just told me that her and her roomie spent halloween night taping raw hot dogs to random doors in the dorm. and throwing some in the showers while people were showering.said the pranking was well received and people were talking about it. no one knows it was her!
