Brag about your kids thread

my son is 18 years old today. Graduated high school a couple of weeks ago, so now it’s two down, two to go!

I guess that’s also bragging on me, but, hey, gotta start somewhere, right?

My 18 year old granddaughter only lasted a day in Bangkok on her own before she headed out to the islands. They and Chiang Mai are safer than Bangkok.

I personally like some grit in my destinations so Bangkok doesn’t worry me. However I found cities like Hanoi and the large Indian cities to be more interesting than Bangkok.

My son, despite his physical and cognitive challenges, went to Japan on his own in May and was totally fine. As safe a country as there is but still interesting.

Mini Me and I are cleaning today and I came across this.

Wise words from someone so young.

If you don’t mind me asking, what is Mini-T1 doing with the autistic kids?

I don’t know much about what kinesiologists do other than the taping… which I’ve had done exactly once and was amazing.

Helps them exercise

Am not sure if they have this in the US but its common now in a few countries to have exercise sessions in gyms for autistic kids (using public funding). They use the pool mostly and are supported by external experts.

Have seen them many times in Brazil and UK now.

Pool programs for autistic kids in Canada are pretty common. Example here:

I view grandkids as my kids so will brag about my 16 year old grandson.

Thoughtful, great personality and smart as a whip. He takes advanced courses, some at a grade higher. Clearly he inherited his smarts from my wife’s side of the family.

His marks were mostly 100’s with the odd 95. One of his 100’s was in “textiles” which was not a subject offered when I was in high school. He is also an accomplished chef but I am hoping he becomes a scientist with cooking and textiles as hobbies.

Perfectly appropriate to brag about grandkids in this thread IMHO. But I suspect you are selling yourself short insofar as the source of your grandson’s intelligence.

I dunno, we just throwing the rules to the wind now?

I’ll allow it just because we have a grandkid coming soon and may want to break the rules myself. And I like hearing about cookes friends and kids. Second favourite topic behind quilts.

Thank you. You are too kind but I never turn down a nice compliment.

My wife’s Ashkenazi Jewish ancestors have a head spinning number of doctorates as well as success in the arts. Her father was the most intimidating intellectual that any son-in-law could have. I was always nervous being in a room alone with him!

my daughter plays on the 18U softball team. they were assigned to be mentors for one of the 12U teams for last weekend’s tournament. so she went to 3 games, talked them up, gave them pointers, and listened to them. following week, a bunch of the 12’s came to her game to cheer mainly for her bc they thought she was a great mentor.

that’s good people right there.

1: Bon got her mortarboard in the local paper

2: D figured out how to play Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love by ear on (one of) his keyboard(s)

I pulled up the tabs on it and showed him, so he adjusted some of his chords, but he didn’t have to change much.

looks like my 20-yo’s hobby. There’s a few pigs and cows and bees wandering the house. Haven’t seen an octopus yet, might send this picture as a challenge.

My son has completed his first season of robotics in high school. This week he’s helping lead a robotics camp for junior high kids. Helping train up the next batch of nerds.
