Biden's inauguration

Agree. But I still wish it was her.

She’s a very smiley person in general though. I mean, she had a huge smile on her face when she was reading off the electoral votes on January 6… even the Trump ones. That’s just how she is.

Don’t watch MSNBC but I was aware that she was a cheerleader. I never claimed that she was bitter about Biden winning or anything.

I’m just saying that I would prefer her to either Biden or Harris. That’s all.

I guess most of the time her smile has looked fake to me. I’ve seen SO many fake social smiles. That’s actually something that I found a real turn-off about her*. This may be the first time I’ve seen her look genuinely happy.

*yeah, I know that’s petty and silly. But she has so much of that “it’s socially required for women to smile, no matter what is happening” about her. It rubs me the wrong way.

ah, I had ditched cable when I moved to my current place in 2013, but got it again spur of the moment this past summer when a spectrum sales person called me, and I was bored sitting at home with no cable and couldn’t think of a good reason to say no.

I think this is the first inauguration I’ve seen live. Other years I’ve been at school, the office, and in some cases (e.g., 2017) no desire to watch.

I’m sure the Obama inauguration in 2008 was probably exciting, but I just didn’t care about politics back then. Trump changed this.

I was probably working during the day but enjoyed watching the nighttime festivities. I have a meeting scheduled from 8-9 but people will understand if I check out at 8:30.

I got my employer to broadcast Obama’s swearing in in some large rooms. I went to the most senior Black executive I’d worked with, and told him I really wanted to watch it, and asked if there was any way the company could support that. He did the rest. But I’m pretty sure it hadn’t occurred to him to get the company to support it until I asked.

Yeah, I watched it.

I watched it expecting to hear the rifle shot

We always watched them in school, so I saw 1981, 1989, and 1993 in school and didn’t really have a choice. I didn’t watch the 1997 inauguration as I was out of school by then. I honestly don’t recall the 1985 inauguration… it was on a Sunday so I probably missed it.

In 2001 I worked at a place that always had CNN on in the background, so I stopped working for probably 10 minutes to watch the official parts of that inauguration. I didn’t watch in 2005. I snuck away from my desk in 2009 to watch Obama’s first inauguration in the cafeteria at work. 2013 was on a Sunday and I watched before church as I was on the west coast then.

I watched 2017 as I was at lunch and it was on the TV in the cafeteria at work.

So I guess from when I started elementary school to present I’ve watched 8 inaugurations and missed 3. :woman_shrugging:

oh yeah, i guess being at work at the time made it less likely that i would watch any of these inaugurations, whereas at home i can just turn on the tv in the background.

I just watched Lada Gaga sing the US national anthem. What a treasure she is, totally nailed it.

Yeah, she was great!

The most emotional rendition I have ever experienced

I liked watching the marching band that was dressed up like the Hamilton characters

Nope, nope, nope. Lady Gaga did a fine job to be sure, but let’s not go crazy here.

No one has ever, nor will ever, nor could ever top Whitney Houston at Super Bowl XXV in 1991.

Just watched it again and I still get chills.

I didn’t see that one. This probably is the best rendition of the national anthem I’ve heard.

I will say that it is a massive pet peeve of mine when singers add that extra note to the word “banner”. Add flourishes on “wave” and/or “brave” or even “oh” but when you add the extra note to “banner” it just seems like you both don’t know the melody to our national anthem and also either couldn’t be bothered to learn it or don’t know how to read music .

Still, even if Lady Gaga had sung the correct notes on “banner” it still would not have touched Whitney Houston’s performance.

Said the most emotional, Whitney is still the best

Absolutely worth 3 minutes of your time. But the first minute is just talking about it, so if you’re willing to devote 2 minutes but not 3… skip the first minute.

Well on that much we agree.
