Best things about Costco

Just got back from Costco: it was quiet and not too peopley!!!

@Echo: A nice lady was packaging up about 2 dozen chikkinz on a table and they had 2 big ovens going with more chikkinz!!! Chikkinz galore!!! :yum:

I took my younger son with me last night, he enjoys “helping” even though it’s not so helpful.

Anyway, we stopped for dinner afterwards. He got a hot dog with a drink and a sundae, I also got a hot dog with a drink, we spent $5.50 plus a bit of tax, can’t beat that.

He’s already planning what he wants for dinner next week (guess he’s decided this is a weekly date night for us or something). “Maybe pizza, mom. I sure do love a-pepperoni a-pizza, like-a-Luigi!” (make sure you read that second half in a bad Italian accent).

@Echo: I know you dig da chikkinz, but do you need a little variety??? :yum:

You can get them cheaper just by hopping a fence at meeps.

Why do you need 24 of them? Having a big party?

Big parties are for suckers.

Suckers are for big parties.

More like big suckers are for parties, right?

My Costco membership auto renewed this month. Their website says I won’t be getting new cards, so I guess the expiration date on the card isn’t meaningful?

I got back more than I spent on the executive membership. I don’t expect that will be the case next year - won’t be buying another dryer or lovesac, but I’ll definitely get back the difference between the regular and executive membership. I still enjoy going, it’s been a good decision for us. And my kids love their hot dog combos.

I’m at $125 for the last year, renewing in a couple of weeks. I also have a $240 reward coming on the credit card.

Things i have discovered in the last year. Campari tomatoes and the precooked bacon. The tomatoes are good to eat the 10 months of the year all other tomatoes are shit. The bacon is great to throw on sandwiches or put in just about anything. I keep the bag in the freezer and get through it over a few months.

I bought a 15lb box of goat cubes. Made several delicious African goat stews.

My costco also seems to be expanding on the prepared meals, or maybe i just started looking into them. The Asian chicken wraps are nice for lunch. Bought the chicken street tacos about a month ago…for $15, it was good for 2.5 dinners for the two of us adults in the house, probably could have stretched to 3 as i had more than i needed the first night. The gyro kit looks really good, but have not tried it yet.

I’m still a no on the rotisserie chicken. They do have 2-3 pound packages of rotisserie chicken meat, which i assume is not actually from leftover rotisserie chicken from the day. It looks good to toss in a stir fry. Hopefully the salt content is more tolerable, maybe just by virtue of eating a lower serving (trying not to offset by a salty sauce).

How easy / difficult do you find it to get out the quantity that you need? Do the pieces stick together in the freezer? I stopped buying the precooked bacon because I wasn’t going through it fast enough.

Those are pretty damn good for the price. Big fan.

We buy the cooked bacon at Costco but it’s crumbles, not whole slices of bacon. Super handy to have around.

I don’t like bacon crumbles. I pretty much only like bacon plain… I don’t want it in anything else.

They are easier to separate frozen than refrigerated. And they thaw pretty much instantly.

The kids abuse the bottom drawer freezer. I thought it would all end in crumbles but held up fairly well.

Good to know, thanks! I’ll try buying and freezing it next time I’m there. Certainly more economical that way than buying the 10-strip packages at the grocery store, but I hate throwing out half a package of uneaten bacon.
