I love their pumpkin pies.

Just got home with a Costco chicken. Such a cheap and easy meal. Just have to rip it apart and boom - chicken tacos.

Went there yesterday to pick up lunch and “a few things” came home with $400 of I don’t what the hell we bought.

Was that your fault or was it a group effort?

I once mathematically proved that you can’t make it out of Costco under $300.

Still a fan of the vacuum sealed chicken breast meat. Not as cheap but more versatile. Made fajitas for dinner with almost everything from Costco:

About 1/4 pack of the chicken, diced up a bit more than it comes in the package
2 bell pepper halves of different colors, sliced
Half an onion, sliced
Carb balance tortillas
Fajita seasoning

Heat oil, season chicken, add veggies for a couple minutes, add chicken and stir fry a bit more.

I’ll save the other half of the peppers and onion in a container in the fridge, and have another round later in the week. It’s about $30-35 for 8 “servings” total (2x large fajitas per serving).

The 3 of us chipped in, sure this looks good, hey let’s get a new set of enameled pots, my heated blanket is dead can I get this one, I need a new book for the plane…

If I just need a couple of Costco items, I’m pretty good at sticking to my list. In fact, one time I got to the checkout with 3 relatively small items, and the checker looked at my cart and said “Oh is that it?”

I either come out with 1-2 items (and no cart), or $350 worth of stuff, $200 of which isn’t really necessary.

It’s the Costco way

I used to stop for a few items when I lived really close to a Costco. Now it’s an hour round trip and we only go every 4-6 weeks. So almost always $300+. My last trip was like $240 and I had to brag to the wife, lol.

After I bought a freezer for the house that STBX and I shared I went to Costco and stocked up.

Had $300 worth of stuff in the cart, of which $200 was food, mostly frozen. Cart was half full.

I went to the receipt checker lady on my way out and she was like “dang, that is a LOT of food… WOW.”

Uh… you work at freaking COSTCO!!!

I assume it must have been the first 5 minutes of her employment because my cart seems to be below-average fullness when I shop there (which is unsurprising since I am shopping for fewer people than many Costco members.)

And to be sure… I assume she was probably coming from a situation where she had never had $200 to spend on food all at once.

But, um, don’t cast aspersions on your employer’s customers for buying too much!!!

Maybe she was angling for an invite to the awesome bbq you are throwing.

When I was living from paycheck to paycheck, I only ever shopped enough for a few days. Buying things in bulk was very difficult because of low cash flow. I was also scared of commitment (to a product) and didn’t have much shelf space. I wouldn’t have been able to relate to someone stocking up their freezer (although $200 doesn’t sound like a huge amount).

It took me a while of earning decent money to get my head around buying things in bulk in order to save money. Perhaps I"ve gone too far in the other direction, as my SO gets alarmed when I buy a couple of cases of the same wine that I intend to cellar over the next few years.

Thats ok if its a hard to find imported wine. Its not unusual for imported prices of wine to go up and imported stock to be volatile, so it makes sense to stock up if you can afford it.

If its only standard wine (easy to find), then thats a bit on the odder side of things.

She definitely had a judgey tone in her voice.

Because it’s too much alcohol?

People comment on my liquor collection, but if you want to make a variety of mixed drinks you’ve got to have a variety of liquor!

(That said… does liquor go bad? I maybe should cull a few bottles that I’ve had for a double digit number of years.)
