well, if he’s MAGA then that’s a given
I agree. Call out the MAGA leaders that incite the mentally ill against their political opponents.
It’s stochastic terrorism. Trump and MAGA Republicans promote this stuff.
Yeah, I don’t know. An internet conversation that Nancy Pelosi (or Clinton, AOC, Soros, etc.) is pure evil and needs to die horribly is pretty common these days.
I guess you could say it’s the insane people that act on those thoughts and feelings, and the sane ones merely joke about it. But it’s probably more of a spectrum…
I think the recognition of the power of words is at a low point right now, historically speaking.
(There is even a debate about whether school children should be taught the explicit rules of grammar.)
And i have a lot of sympathy for this view, For example, i chafe at recent reversals of this trend such as the many different episodes of television that are censored because they offend somebody in one way or another.
But i do think it gives us a bit of a blind spot for the danger of this kind of joking and language. Democrats are starting to recognize it more, but it often comes off as partisan rather than genuine criticism, and maybe that is often true.
Twitter is saying NBC corrected the story and there was not a third person.
One bothersome fact about this is that Nancy Pelosi is a fundamentally boring person. She once opposed the Iraq War, and now supports other miscellaneous democratic things like health care. She’s probably most famous for that one time she ate $12 ice cream. And yet folks are Sure that she is the devil and needs to be killed.
In terms of MAGA rhetoric vs actual craziness, I think the rhetoric is plainly to blame for making Pelosi exciting.
Yes, redundancy should be avoided.
She’s boring like Paul Ryan.
Boehner was pretty boring too. Really, all of them are boring. Gingrich maybe ruffled some feathers but there really isn’t a reason to hate on Nancy any more than any other.
I guess female is a “reason” for the interwebs.
Yes, she’s boring like Paul Ryan. There’s a few that are especially corrupt, dirty, dishonest, or dangerous, but I agree with you, they’re basically all boring old people who make mostly minor changes to the nation’s future.
Im confused. So the guy who assaulted nancy Pelosi’s husband should be given the utmost respect?
No?
Not really sure whats wrong with the term magat. The term maga is already pretty offensive
If a person can’t frame an argument against a political viewpoint without resorting to name-calling, they have lost the argument…and the moral high ground if their opponents are also resorting to such tactics.
Fine no argument, the guy who broke into their house is top notch. I want to meet him for tea
Maga is their own term. Not really much of a change to make it magat. Maga is already offensive and their own term
I think the point is that you can condemn his actions without calling him names that also insult others who weren’t involved.
Surely you are aware of similar terms to describe people that have differing degrees of offensiveness. “Hispanic” is not offensive, but “spic” is. There are plenty of other examples. Being a derivative of a non-offensive word doesn’t guarantee non-offensiveness.
MAGA is not offensive to the people who it describes. You might be offended by their politics / actions / leader / loyalty to said leader and more, but it’s not an offensive term. Magat is intended to be offensive and not in remotely the same category.
but MAGA IS offensive to anyone who isnt a white male christian. The term make american great again is offensive to all marginalized people. The term Hispanic is not offensive to anyone.
