Picking up an office chair that a friend is giving away free!!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Good thing about living in the PO and owning a truck is that I went to the office after a week and a 1/2 at home and brought my Steelcase chair back. Since then sitting at my desk has been no biggie. I took the monitors from my desk the day they told us to leave and I already had a keyboard and ergo mouse at home. The Herman Miller or Steelcase chairs are a must. No way you can work all day in a crap chair and be feeling good at the end of it. My wife changed jobs and went from working in the office to WFH and we just bought a Steelcase chair for her. It was $299 I believe. Now we have the kids doing school at home again so we effectively have a 4 office workplace going on in our home at this point LOL!

Get the chair. It will be so much nicer than what you’re currently setting in it will make up for most of the other ills you are experiencing. In fact you probably forgot how supportive real office task chairs are to our backs.

How long are you people sitting in your chairs?

I get up at least every 20 minutes to a half a hour to do something. Be it going to the restroom, getting some water, speaking to a co-worker, checking in with my wife, go make a (personal) phone call. Or getting up just to get up.

Way too effing long. Working 12-14 hour days to meet deadlines (so close to being done), and my 5 minute escape is reading GoA, so I’m still at my desk, because if I left the bedroom, my family would think that it’s okay to bring me all the stuff that they’ve been waiting to tell ONLY me. I’m very glad I bought a standing desk, because I’m getting out of my chair way more than I would otherwise.

Also, @aofan, I just got an email about $50 dollars off from now through Nov 23rd for the uplift desks, so a teeny bit cheaper LOL.

the aeron chair is way more expensive than that. it’s currently on sale for 1270.75 if I get all the adjustable features and the leather arms, but keep it all black. if i upgraded to mineral with a polished aluminum base it’s 1500.25. not sure i care to have a color other than black though, especially for that increased price.

i’m in so much damn pain lately. unsure if it’s the couch that’s the issue or just my being immobile for too long. i’ve had joint issues for years though, but it’s worse now. PT seems to make it worse, not better. the guy assures me that it’s supposed to hurt after pt, but idk.

score

Are your companies paying for all these expensive chairs, or are you all footing the bills for them?

i’m footing the bill. i didn’t ask my employer.

I had already purchased a $450 real office chair prior to pandemic, because I chose to WFH once or twice a week. But my employer subsidized office chairs for people who are now forced to WFH. I’m not sure how much they are chipping in, but co-workers were happy with the deal.

A good office chair makes a HUGE difference. So does moving around. In a typical day, I start working at my breakfast table, move to the living-room recliner after I’m done with my tea, and then move to my desk and office chair and second monitor when I want to work with two monitors.

If I’m footing the bill, this is what I’d get. Splurging of course for the upholstery.

your image is broken, but i’m sure it’s fantastic.

when i finally get around to this office chair and desk, i want to probably get a recliner next.

Found a simular one Did it work?

yes. nice upholstery

This is what I rock with at home. But no fancy undercarriage. Have to spin the thing around (and around) to raise/lower it. Goes nicely with my antique roll-top desk.

I also have to decide between sizes “A”, “B” or “C” for my super fancy expensive chair. size “A” has a loose cutoff of 5’4". i’m barely 5’4" first thing in the morning. Size “B” is 5’2" - 6’, so I thought okay, clearly I’m size “B”, but the two sales people I spoke to both thought size “A” was better for me.

Upholstery is for suckers.

just ordered an aeron chair. It was $1,429.80 with tax :grimacing: Was going to go to Herman Miller one more time to try the chairs, but my joints hurt too much to walk there, so I just ordered it online. Sorry to those sales associates who might get a commission on it who helped me since I ordered online in the end.

i was torn between the “A” size and the “B” size, but two sales associates told me “A” was better for me, so I went with that.

now need to order the desk and possibly a monitor. I’m leaning towards forgoing a keyboard tray. @Celalta how is the keyboard tray working out for you?
