I just got progressive lenses because I’m old. I don’t think I’m going to like them. I have to move my head too much. Going down steps is going to be dangerous. Maybe I just need to get used to them.
“Hey, where’s your cast iron pan? I need it.”
I hate Hate HATED my progressives when I first got them. Seriously considered ponying up for lined bifocals (out of pocket because I had used up my vision benefit on the blasted progressives) I hated them so much.
Stopped wearing them for a bit and went back to my old glasses. Then I wore the progressives one day at the zoo because they’re also Transitions lenses and I thought it would be nice for going inside and outside rather than constantly swapping between sunglasses & regular glasses. But despite the advantages of also being Transitions, the progressives still tired my eyes out and made me a grumpy cranky twig.
The standard advice is to force yourself to wear them and only them a week. But in the end it was exactly the opposite for me. By wearing them a little bit at a time until I got used to them … that’s how I got used to them. Now I barely even notice them.
How I initially read it. Carry on
I’m experiencing both of these…glad to know I’m not the only one.
The reduction in peripheral vision is really pissing me off.
And here’s where lined bifocals would help, according to my optometrist cousin. Because they simply don’t have that issue in the same way the progressive lenses do.
With the progressives you have to be a “nose pointer” as she says. But you do get used to it.
Try giving your eyes a break and going back to your old glasses for a bit if you need to.
I can’t recall your marital status but if you are married to a working spouse and she’s in open enrollment, consider “double dipping” on vision insurance and try a pair of lined bifocals. Or if double dipping isn’t an option, the lined ones are a lot less expensive than the no line ones… you could just pay out of pocket.
I would just block off all free time on your calendar right now. this way, if someone wants to scheudle something else, they will get a notification you are busy at that time.
This week is beyond busy.
Ahead of you on this one.
Annoyed thoughts. One of the bigger life companies in Canada, three times in the last six months I’ve had to go up to VP level to get administrative stuff done. The admins are absolutely puzzled about what I’m asking to have done, and I’m like you don’t do this everyday? How can I be the first person out of your 10s of thousands of agents to ask this?
Ok, in one case I was pretty smart, taking advantage of some policy features to save money. But the other cases, jeez.
I am burning networking capital having to keep talking to these people. I normally save that for exceptional stuff, not routine.
Example one, couple getting a two insured policy. One spouse needed backdating, the other one didn’t, so no point backdating him. I suggest backdated the first insured, then right at policy issue add their spouse. Boom, saved them 50-100. Just for some paperwork at the life company.
Six months later I got this done as an exception.
Example two. I have this thing I call term stacking. Want a term 20, but get a term 10 instead. Then just before the next age change, switch to term 20 (allowed by some companies as a policy provision). Boom, cut costs in half until the next age change. Save’s some folks a grand in the first year.
Ok, in the first two years, full chargeback on commissions on the initial policy, then full comp on the second, as expected. After two years there no chargeback on the initial policy, but reduced comp on the second. Also as expected, total comp in both cases the same as just getting the final policy upfront.
Except one company decided in the first year to do a full chargeback on the first policy then reduced comp on the second. Net result, it cost me money to do the exchange. Wut? Premiums are twice, and I make less comp than if they just had a policy with half the final premiums? No.
Back up the chain of command again.
It is super warm here at sbux!!!
I heard two cell phones ringing tonight at a funeral visitation.
That could be even better/worse depending on what the ring tones were.
highway to hell?
I was in an introduction to insurance class, 500 students. Ihad my phone on mute, but was playing with my new smart watch because…bored. swiped the wrong thing and crazy train started playing from my knapsack at full volume. Awkward. And it’s not like I was hard to pick out of the 500.
