I feel really weird when my fostering agency pays me the wrong amount and I have to reach out and ask them about it. I don’t do it for the money, and I don’t want to be perceived that way.

I am unnaturallly tired this morning. Must be the onset of spring allergies.

If it’s .00000000001 of my tax money, or 100%, I would definitely want to you to reach out and get the right amount. Whatever amount it is, for kids from bad homes to get good homes, it’s worth it.

This may be affecting payments to other families and they may be nervous to speak out for fear of losing a vital source of income. So you could be doing a favor to others by letting them know it’s wrong.

Trying to organize a four day camping trip with 18 students. Where do I even start…nobody responds lol.

Two couples bringing their own tents. Some folks bringing their own fishing rods. Don’t have enough canoes. One person just cancelled, another might. One person wants to drive the 9 hours themselves, another driver wants someone to share the driving. Some want to drive with their friends.

Spreadsheets are not enough, I need ai.

My lower back feels stiff and hurts if I move certain ways. I don’t remember doing something stupid but apparently I did.

I forgot to pack my burr grinder and aeropress, going to have to use a Keurig this weekend.

Did you sneeze or cough? Above a certain age, these can put you in traction.

Currently visiting the MAGA in-laws. Without trying I’ve stumbled across 4 loaded guns, strewn around the house. 2 pistols put into a custom holster in the arm of the soda. 1 pistol underneath a MAGA hat on a shelf. 1 rifle next to the front door.

Gods help us, at least we get to leave soon.

adults only, or do you have kids?

With that many guns just lying around, an intruder might be able to grab one before the homeowners can.

Adults only, this weekend.

SIL is pregnant and we’re waiting to see how she treats things. SIL is also a MAGA gun nut but she has always seemed responsible around firearms, a step less MAGA/QAnon than the parents-in-law. I believe that SIL at home will have her gun in a locked safe that the kid won’t know about until it’s older.

Our future child is a ways out still, this shit won’t be allowed when we have a kid around. A single infraction will end in a discussion about whether in-laws ever want to see their children or grandchildren again.

They do at times have guns around with many adults heavily drinking, like scattered about, and that makes me a little nervous. I trust most of said adults but you never know with 40 drunk people who gets into an argument. At least for those they put the obvious ones away. But know where to look, in the bedroom (where spouse and I sleep but people shouldn’t be in), in the closet, gun. Top of the curving stairs where generally people shouldn’t go as it leads into the master bed, a rifle.

Any of that level of storage in Canada would remove your ability to own guns for the rest of your life, and likely get you up on some charges.

I used to frequent a hunt camp that hunted, and drank heavy. They had a clear rule, guns entered the camp unloaded, and went right to the storage cabinet. One person had the key, and was responsible for keeping it locked.
I guess one guy entered with a loaded gun, got called, and denied it. racked the shotgun and out came a shell. That cost him a bottle of whiskey for the camp. My buddy says know you can hear the guy walking towards camp because he’s racking his gun so much to make sure it’s unloaded lol.

I think the one big difference between canada and the us is Canada’s distinction between long guns and pistols/handguns. Long guns, I don’t think the freedoms are materially different than the US. Pistols and handguns are virtually impossible to own, nevermind use. Handguns can only be in one of three places, in storage that meets requirements (most people use third party storage since it’s hard to meet the requirements at home), in transport to a licensed gun range, or at a gun range. There is no other legal place to have a handgun.

Wow. I’ve been telling my 7 year old to stop leaving scissors (closed) on the floor. Would blow a gasket if those were replaced by guns by an adult.

At dinner, I stepped away. MIL had 4 glasses of wine beginning around noon. Asked me, spouse, SIL/BIL multiple times if we wanted drinks, nobody else wanted one. Now at dinner she encouraged everybody to buy a drink; I declined, citing concerns over my stomach on the long drive home. I bought a mocktail because pregnant SIL did so she didn’t get left out.

SIL obviously didn’t want to drink so MIL stuck a spoon into some drinks and her mouth so she could “just taste it, it doesn’t count!”

We’re almost ready to go home.

please tell me you are at a restaurant

lol, yeah. The first 4 drinks were at the house. Thankfully about to leave. MIL and pregnant SIL nearly got into a fight because SIL didn’t want to have alcohol or eat certain things like rare steak.

MIL talked about how she ate this and that while pregnant with them and they came out fine (sidebar: I suspect MIL smoked tobacco and potentially drank through both pregnancies.) I came in with “Let’s change the subject” and we moved on.

It was a moderately healthy weekend with in-laws.
