I started the original Annoyed Thoughts thread when I was out of power for an extended period after a bad batch of thunderstorms. I had to look back at the archived thread for how long it was: 64 hours! Fortunately the weather was pleasant. I did a lot of smoking and grilling, as stuff from the fridge and freezer would go bad anyway and that was an easy way to cook without power.
I know rural areas often have more extended outages, but this was in the city.

We luckily didn’t lose power, but our Spectrum service line must’ve drooped low when a big branch of the neighbor’s tree fell during the storms. (The good neighbor, not the Feagle 
neighbor.) Big branch, but otherwise didn’t cause any damage luckily. So Spectrum is coming out tomorrow morning to look at it to get it back in the sky where it belongs.
Neighbor is also considering just cutting down the big tree (a maple). 
Part of me always hates to see a tree go, but sometimes it’s necessary to ward off future property damage.
I attended a fundraiser to raise money for a disease a colleague has. It’s a pretty bad disease, and I’m happy to support the cause.
I had in my mind an amount I was planning to donate. I put in a few silent auction bids early in the night, was still winning all of them by the time the straight up donation part of the evening happened.
I ended up winning one of the silent auction bids but i would have donated more if they had ended the silent auction at the correct scheduled time and I knew my final total. Can always still donate the rest I had planned (and will), but it’s extra steps and thus a very mildly annoyed thought.
Most of the silent auction items were gift baskets or alcohol or a combination of gift cards plus some other things. One item was a $200 restaurant gift card. That was it, nothing else. It sold for $550.
I know the point of these things is to give, but that’s a weird item and a weird bid.
I bought a “Striploin Roast” that was on sale for a good price a while back. When I finally get it out of the freezer and thawed, when I cut it, there is no ******in’ way this is strip loin. Change of plans: I cut off the fat and render it some; cube the meat up and brown it; cut up some celery/carrots/onions/garlic and thaw out some mushroom stock. 3 hours in the oven at 325F should do the trick!!
A new list of school supplies for middle school was sent out today, five days before school starts. The list is different from what is posted on the school website. So now we have to go buy MORE supplies, and some of the supplies we bought are no longer needed.
You should complain to the school and or school board. Ridiculous

Oh, go ride a bus paid by taxpayers to a private school!!
Feagle going nuts outside is NOT helping my headache right now. 
The lady next door was talking about how crazy the weather was this year. Then she said some day we’d probably learn that someone was controlling it. She gave me no indication of being a nutcase before this, although tbh the town I live in is loaded with conservatives. She didn’t seem to buy into my response, which is that this crazy weather is exactly what climate experts have been predicting for decades.

And don’t answer out loud. Just blink twice, away from that Flock camera.
I really ought to have my phone go into Do Not Disturb mode while driving.
I drove 2 hours to catch a flight out of Logan this evening.
Just as I turn into Central Parking and start cussing about the problem with wearing sunglasses, the notifications come in – my flight has been canceled.
Distracting much?
Fortunately I was rebooked on a later flight. Unfortunately, I probably won’t get to my hotel until after midnight, and I have a 7am Teams call in the morning.

Our new car will audibly translate incoming texts from a “connected” phone. Yes, it is impossible for me to comprehend them (bad ears, bad acoustics), but luckily the texts are from my wife’s phone, so she can read them instead while I drive.
No. The thought occurred to me that any incoming text message or notification can probably wait until I’m out of the car.
While my car theoretically can read incoming text messages…it’s a 12 year old Subaru.
I actually saw the words “FLIGHT CANCELLATION” appear on my watch as I was looking around, trying to figure out where I was going.
First world problems.
I seem to recall Logan Airport parking as being very expensive.
It is. But with a 2-hour drive home Friday night, I don’t want to have to eff around with a shuttle to the economy lots that seem like they’re half-way to New Hampshire.
Apparently I’m not the only person to think this, as Central Parking is almost full today.
One of these days, I ought to train myself to use Logan Express from Framingham. It’d be cheaper and would avoid the fun of doing the driving through Boston, but I’ve resisted so far on the basis of “one more thing that could go wrong”. If I wanted that, I’d accept an itinerary with a connection out of BDL.
At least I’m getting plenty of time to ogle all the international airliners while I wait. I saw a lovely Etihad livery a little while ago, and now I want to go see why an Avianca A320 has a US registration…
Take Amtrak to South Station, then the bus to Logan? Can get on in Providence.
From where I live, it’d make no sense.
Many, many moons ago…2.5 months after 9/11, actually…I took the bus from Hartford to Boston to catch a flight, but that was just one element of a very wacky business trip:
The regulatory and legislative lobbying effort surrounding credit scoring for me a 
-load of frequent flyer miles and hotel points (especially with all the bonuses available right after 9/11)
A bus is still viable, and maybe I’d consider it for some itineraries, but today I’m just flying to Toronto. Too much more time/too many intermediate steps, and BDL-hub-YYZ ceases looking quite so undesirable.
Anyway… you should from now on hook up your wife to your official itinerary, so that when she gets updated information about your flight, she can call you, and of course you have her on the exception list for being ignored.
