Annoyed Thoughts

Not sure if you’re saying that ironically, but that’s pretty much how my calendar works lol.

One more annoyance from my travels yesterday – Uber failed me,.

I’m visiting Toronto to get some documents in support of my Canadian citizenship by descent application, so I picked a hotel closer to one of the archives I’m visiting / further out from downtown.

Unfortunately, Uber couldn’t find anyone willing to take me from Billy Bishop to my hotel at 10:30pm, presumably because it is, relatively speaking, “a little out there”.

So I took transit. Not a problem – I had planned to do that – but the idea of spending over an hour on a tram / subway / bus was less attractive at 10:30 than it would have been at 8pm.

when I am “out there” I tend to pre- order my UBER for the time I want.

I find most country music to be annoying as fuck (yes, I know - I’m repeating myself) but certain songs are just fingernails across a coarse texture. There Was This Girl is one of them.

The opening verse is basically “I did this incredibly stupid thing and tore shit up. Why did I do that? Well, … there was this girl, and …” - at which point, I want to rip the singer through the time-space continuum, and … look, I’m not an advocate of corporal punishment by any stretch, but I have a feeling a good ass-beating with a board might be the only solution there.

Kind of like my beef with the premise of “Careless Whisper.” Dude cheated on his girl, then at the end has the audacity to ask pleadingly “Was what I did so wrong, so wrooong, that you had to leeeave me alooone??” To which my reply would be :face_with_raised_eyebrow: y…es? tf?

I realized I left my phone at work as I got into my car at the end of the work day. There was a time, not too long ago, that I would say “what the heck” and just go home without my phone. I miss those days.

Your company puts you up in a hotel for a Teams meeting?

I change my background for Teams to look like I’m in a fancy hotel.

Top 40 country is nearly all garbage, best I can tell. You need to come to the dark side with Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Tyler Childers, etc.

I absolutely hated country growing up because I only heard the top 40 stuff on the radio. I got to college and heard Woodie Guthrie, and Lucinda Williams, and Uncle Tupelo, and finally decided country music was ok.

Hotels for Teams meetings are for suckers.

I don’t think he is in Toronto on business.

My mind went elsewhere with that.

Truck, back road, drink, girl, daddy. It’s like a dementia test for Country Music. Checks all the boxes before you get to the second verse.

Considering my luck with air travel (we did have two go-rounds last night), the randomness sometimes encountered when going through customs (I was interrogated longer than usual this trip), and not being certain where the rideshare pickup spot is at Billy Bishop (it’s not a standard airport layout)…I would have been tempting fate to do that.

Not that anyone needs any more reminders about how broken the healthcare system is, but …

Told my current server hosting people I’m pulling my hardware. THey billed me $1900 to exit. I told them the entity that they agreed to, we just shut down, there’s no money there.

THey decide to hold about $7500 of servers.

I send them an email reminding them that this is theft. You can’t hold my equipment to pay bills. Doesn’t work that way.

I’m picking them up at 9am tomorrow.
I guess we’ll have to fight about the bill tomorrow.

To make matters worse, I dealt with this company personally 10 years ago and had about the same type of conversation - they were actually threatening my spouse. But they got bought so I figured, hey, not really the same company. Yeah, seems they have the same profile.
Geesh, more conflict. Homie doesn’t like conflict any more. I’m not 20.

It’s textbook pandering.

Have you given him your phone number and told him to dial your taint?

The shelf I bought to put on my wall came with wall anchors that are clearly deficient - the plastic drywall thing you hammer in is too big for the screw they supplied to grip into it. Not I gotta find either a fatter screw that might not go through the hole in the shelf I am hanging, or use a smaller anchor that will require drilling new holes, in a different enough spot that will still hide behind the shelf, and not be compromised by the existing holes.
