Well then maybe they should get busy lobbying Congress to let us do that again. It still ticks me off that they found a way to legalize sports gambling, but couldn’t let us play poker.

On a conference call, get a call from Citi, so I disconnect
He said he was with my local branch, The phone number was correct.
He said a loan was filled out in my name and
I needed to be transferred to Experian to stop the loan.
Odd to be called by the local branch, and my account is actually a town over, where I used to live. Also, odd to be called on my cell, my house phone is registered.
He was accented and talked too fast.
So, I hung up before being transferred.
Called the local branch - no answer (3 Xs)
Called Citi main line, guy checked accounts and credit cards and saw nothing, transferred me to Loans and it seems I couldn’t connect to human without a loan number.
Called Experian and also impossible to get a human.
Finally got the local branch, who said they saw nothing and the accented male did not work there and no calls were made to me.
I hope I didn’t answer yes to anything
We had some wild storms here today. Lost power at 10, estimated restore time was set at noon…in three days. It’s still listed as that. The power company usually restores power quicker than its estimate, but that’s a damn long time to be without. Over 100k people without power in the city.
Good thing I have shower stuff already at my office locker room, that’s where I will be showering for the next few days.

No air conditioning, stores are probably sold out of dry ice, so say goodbye to food in the fridge. Make sure to charge the phone plus a spare battery in the office. Lighting… could be a challenge. Ugh.
Longest we ever lost power was 28 hours and that sucked, this could be downright brutal.
Sold out of all ice. I have some frozen mini beef wellingtons in the fridge and we just did a Costco run yesterday, of course. I’ll probably take the beef wellingtons and my son’s birthday cake into the office to keep cold until the power is back on, and then it looks like we are having beef Wellington this weekend!

We had a 10-day outage after a big late October snowstorm. (Up to one meter of heavy wet snow; leaves hadn’t fallen from the trees, so the weight brought down many, many trees…) That sucked. Fortunately it wasn’t excessively cold or hot.
When I see tropical systems potentially threaten my area, I’ve taken to making precautionary hotel reservations out of the area for me, my wife, and my cat. While we have generators sufficient to manage the potential discomfort and inconvenience…my wife is disabled with chronic pain. It’s lower stress to proactively evacuate than add that discomfort/inconvenience to my wife’s existence.

My older brother lives in rural Ontario and got tired of the long time it took Hydro to get the power back on after storms: the towns were always the priority.
He finally bit the bullet and bought an expensive generator. He depends on some medical devices so it gives him peace of mind. Not sure it adds to the market value of his home but that was not a consideration.
I’d love to get a whole-house generator, but the topography of my property creates expensive issues that I can’t justify resolving given that 24+ hour outages are only about a once-a-decade occurrence.
I’d also love to go solar, but the wife vetoed the idea. “I don’t care about how it makes sense; it’ll make my roof look ugly.”
So I make do with a couple of portable generators that I can break out when necessary, and use for non-outage purposes when appropriate.
I think I live in a pretty good spot to usually be given high priority on power outages. That is, the point of failure will almost always include my neighborhood of 70 or so homes plus another few hundred further down the line. The power company keeps these main lines fairly clear as well.
I would never consider buying a generator for central Vancouver. But farming communities are vulnerable.
We lost power for several days one winter when our sons were 2.5 years and 2.5 months old. While we could bundle uo, had a fireplace, and a gas cooktop, we lost the contents of our freezer, including 50 bags of frozen breast milk. It sucked seeing power across the road for a day before ours came back up.
No, but since then we’ve gotten a battery in the basement, our utility had a program, long story. It could only be hooked up to six 110v circuits, so no AC. But if we lose power, then we will have a fridge, microwave, some lights, and internet.

I think I’m not destined to own a Built to Spill t shirt. Got one years ago at a concert, and it came out of the dryer with a kind of rust colored stain I couldn’t remove. Fine. Ordered a new shirt from the website (this one is blue, last one was yellow, fwiw). Went to put it on yesterday, rust colored stain.
This has never happened with anything else in the laundry, ever.
Any good news on this?
Just got power back an hour ago, so it was out for 36 hours, but much better than the estimated 75!
