Annoyed Thoughts

I have something similar. However, it wasn’t support that worked for me but stability (shoes that don’t have as much give side-to-side). There was a shoe store in Boulder CO where you tried on various shoes and they filmed the back of your feet while you ran on a treadmill. You then looked back at it in slow motion to see which shoes best prevented you from overpronating. Before that I had long suffered from shin splints but haven’t had them since.

I have been buying Newton Running shoes for about a decade. They look like normal shoes. They seem to be dealing with some sort of supply chain issue, I think around Trump’s tariffs and finding a replacement supplier, and have been basically sold out of most of their shoes for a few months. The Motion and Kismet are two models to look for, once they are back in stock, although if you have tiny or giant feet, they might still have your size.

They have “lugs” in the forefoot that you will want to be aware of, they aren’t for everyone.

I hope they restock, because I don’t like those thick shoes that other companies make.

I haven’t gotten one recently, but these have typically annoyed me because I go in ready to bitch and moan about things, only to find out that the questions they ask don’t really touch the areas I want to bitch and moan about. So in the end I’m even more annoyed because I end up realizing that rather than providing meaningful feedback, I’ve effectively given a rave review.

Our survey was pretty good, about 60 questions where you respond on a 1-5 scale. So I got to say that I quite like the founders of the company, it’s my department management that sucks, and is very un-motivating.

Anyway, I did wind up taking that walk and that was nice. Went out for Thai with my wife for lunch. I might manage to update a slide deck that’s due this week but I’m not really feeling it today.

I discussed the 1 to 5 scale (we do similar) with an old boss of mine and there is no real point of scoring them a 2-3 if something annoys you. To get any traction, it really has to be a 1 out of 5.

Oh, I was pretty liberal with my 1’s! I’d say when it came to questions about my manager it was about 60% 1’s, 40% 2’s, nothing else. Reminds me, I was planning on looking at jobs today on LinkedIn.

Are the questionnaires optionally anonymous?

They are, people can only see data with… I think n>5 or something like that.

I was pretty unhappy the day I filled out our last survey. I have a different boss now, so that would be rated higher, but nearly everything else would be worse.

The mini split in my garage is starting to make a noise, I cleaned the fan (pretty dirty) and that didn’t fix it, I think my next best guess is it needs new bearings. Won’t get to it this weekend, but pretty soon I’ll have to tear it down. It’s possible there is something that just needs cleaned. The sort of good news is it’s not that hard to tear down.

There is an unpleasant smell coming from a couple of the heat registers, presumably from something in the crawl space. Possibilities include sewer issue or dead animal. Someone is going to have to suck it up, put on Tyvek suit, and check out the crawl space. I half joked it was time for my sons to learn an adulting lesson.

Went for a walk through the neighborhood this morning as the snow has finally melted off most of the sidewalks. I sent a friendly ask to the neighborhood FB group before the last snow to avoid piling up their driveway snow onto the adjacent sidewalks as this creates safety issues for walkers.

About 25% of the neighborhood had piles of snow along their driveways that blocked sidewalk use. They will likely melt in the next week as it will warm up, but it could just as easily be another 2 weeks of frozen temps.

You get fined here after 24 hours for that behaviour.

Academic this year as no snow here.

For putting snow on the sidewalk, or simply not shoveling your sidewalk?

It’s really irritating, and when we have above freezing days followed by cold nights, it all refreezes around the piles, and along the street curbing, so just going around the piles requires a bit of care.

We have 24 hours to clear sidewalks too. And what kinda :peach: :hole: dumps their driveway snow onto the sidewalk???

Just checked my city’s bylaws: it is illegal to dump snow onto the sidewalk. :judge:

For not having a clear sidewalk.

We do not have a sidewalk shoveling ordinance. Everyone shovels their driveways. Seems like basic common sense to not dump it on the sidewalk.

I pointed out on the FB group that the sidewalks will pretty much before anything else if you don’t put snow there, sometimes days or weeks ahead of the rest of it. Maybe this isn’t obvious for anyone who does not normally walk the neighborhood. Today was the day we hit the milestone, and a few neighbors did clear their sidewalks between 10am and 2pm, so perhaps they realized this.

Wow, that just makes me irrationally angry at your neighbours lol.
Our sidewalks are used way too much to be doing that. And like the other Canadians posting here, you can get fined for doing that here.

Technically we’re supposed to be shovelled down to the concrete but that’s difficult. It snows and people walk on it which packs it down and the snowblower won’t lift it up. So we end up with hardpacked snow for sidewalks which I think is fine for most folks. But, in a fury of compliance, yesterday I went out and scraped like crazy for half an hour and got my sidewalks down to bare concrete. Only one in my neighbourhood.

Right? I’m glad I’m not just being petty about this. A few of the piles are probably a foot deep even now that everything else has melted anywhere that isn’t shaded. And that’s a foot of packed down ice that will take several warm days to get through.

I don’t live in a neighborhood that people will walk through to go anywhere other than out for a walk. The kids of course will need to use the sidewalks to get to the bus stop. I will regularly see dog walkers from a few of the houses, including one of the snow shoveling offenders.

I do believe that someone could be held liable in my state if someone was injured due to this as the law would only protect the “act of god” accumulations and homeowner placement that intentionally changes this would be at risk.
