Spilled something on my shirt so I wiped it with a wet towel to clean. Hope my shirt dries and doesn’t look dumb before my meeting.
How are they getting into your house? Are they licensed agents with access to the lock box? Is your agent showing them around? Are you showing them around?
Another agent calls our agent and says ‘I have clients that want to see the house’. Our agent gives the other agent the code to the lockbox, and they help themselves.
The problem comes in if it’s not another agent of course. I’d like to think that the realtor industry has requirements to verify identification in cases like this but given that it appears to be a scam, I’m now less confident that’s the case.
Holy crap! In the year of our Lord two thousand twenty five?!?!?!
I mean, that’s exactly how it worked in the United States when my parents were house shopping in 1983.
But when I bought my first house in 1999 we had moved to a more advanced system whereby only licensed and bonded agents could access the lockbox.
It’s a pretty common scam here. Someone steals your pictures when you’re selling your home and then posts it for rent on Facebook marketplace or elsewhere and tries to rent it to someone moving from out of town. The goal is to steal the damage deposit.
Yeah, but they’re not actually gaining physical access to your house.
It’s not like in the US anyone claiming to be a realtor gets the code to the lockbox to help themselves to your house any time they feel like it from the moment they get the code until you change the locks (which I would do immediately, BTW).
These scammers can let themselves into SL’s house any time they want. When they’re away, when Mrs. SL is home alone, even now with the lock box taken down because they may have made a copy.
You can take a wax imprint of the key very quickly & easily while onsite then mold a key later.
SL, you should assume that criminals have a key to your house.
Yeesh. I’m going to ask the realtor if they verified all of the agents. If so, it’s fine. Maybe the scammers didn’t not actually show the place.
odds are the scammer isn’t even local. They want the deposit
The ceiling fan in the bathroom made an odd noise while I was brushing my teeth. It distracted me enough that my toothbrush went flying into the air, landing on the floor just shy of the terlet. I had to break out a spare from the dentist.
Yeah, I was just going off the statement that they showed people around the house.
I agree that there are plenty of scams where they just pull the listing photos.
I rode in an Uber like that once. Dude had every single light on his dashboard lit up. The whole time. No audible tones, nothing flashing, but I just shut my mouth and remembered that I don’t believe in an afterlife and i have life insurance, so if something happened, well, I couldn’t stress it!
Garage door latch sticking. We couldn’t even get the door open, I had to pull the hinge pins and pull the door open from the other side.
Good news, it’s just the latch part that slides into the door. Probably a $5 part. Which I have extras of because I put all new locksets on about 5-6 years ago.
Dammit. Except I’m pretty sure at some point I looked at the spare parts and thought "i’ll never use them’ and threw them out. So I guess I’m driving into the hardware store.
the moment you realize you forgot to put a cup under the coffee maker
so I had to pay AmEx around $370 today
company owes me $400 - they don’t offset

Storm last night took down a tree, about 30’ tall. Debating if I want to deal with it or pay to have someone else deal with it.
Storm last night brough 10inches of wet heavy snow. started by shoveling a path for the dog so it could go potty.
then moved to the driveway. bc my daughter’s car stays home and thanks to a dead battery, on the street, the plow swerves around. so i got to shovel about 75 linear feet of the street the extra 2-10 feet (the swerve has a curve) so im not leaving a wall of wet heavy stuff in the street for everyone to deal with.
on the bright side, i ate a huge lunch at the place I walked to (bc the office park lunch places were close due to weather!).
Are you me?
I’m in the same situation sans big time snow.
After doing the jumper cables thing a few times, I bought this…
It’s not the most user friendly but it’s effective. Just this morning, the car started up on its own.
Oh man, that wet show is the worst, RIP your back! We mostly got rain, just a dusting of snow, and it’s sunny today so the roads are fine.
