It was 0°F when I woke up today, woof. It’s supposed to get a little warmer throughout the week, then really cold again next week. Winter is upon us in NE Kansas.

I need an assistant. Keeping my inbox cleared out and my calendar up to date is an entire job.

DIshwasher is acting up again. I think it’s time to retire it. :frowning:

ETA: Again, my gf washes the dishes and I dry. Just for larffs, I hit the dishwasher start button and it fires up to life. I think it’s fluffin’ with us. And the toaster’s been laughing at me.

Maybe if you get the executive job?

I recall reading an article in The Economist that was basically arguing that more senior leadership should have their own secretaries. If a $40,000 a year secretary can make a $300,000 a year executive 20% more efficient then that’s a good deal for the employer. And the evidence was that secretaries are even better than that.

At this rate, they will finish the hiring process by 2027!

Admins are few and far between here. I think only EVP’s get dedicated admins; SVP’s and VP’s have an admin, but they are assigned to 3-5 executives apiece. Anyone below VP, which is a very senior role here, does not have access to one.

So even our BU CFO has to share an admin with several others, and they’re always super overworked, because their contribution is so significant.

Yeah, so that’s a bad allocation of resources on your employer’s part. Penny wise and pound foolish.

I have been expecting a package that has been sitting in the metro area since 1/7. It finally moved to a different location in the metro area today, but still no delivery.

Wife got jury duty. Sounds like a complicated long case. They told today’s pool that wasn’t excused to come back Wednesday as they will get pools from the afternoon today and both morning and afternoon tomorrow. Guess they are expecting to toss a lot of jurors. Hoping my wife is one that gets tossed.

I thought this was stuff from 4 years ago. I went to a Sonic today and I see “transaction fee” flash across the screen. Their prices are 3.5% higher than the menu shows, it turns out. Aholes.

I searched to check it out and see that some stores list a reason - a BS “we have limited ability to raise prices and cover costs necessary to operate this business”. No. They certainly had the ability to raise their price 3.5%, because that’s exactly what they did.

And, seriously, they can’t raise the price of a $4 hot dog to $4.14? What BS.

I had always assumed this was a bogus anti-Biden tactic, but apparently it is just an ahole retailer tactic. Are there other places still doing this?

Too bad, as I liked their super-super-sweet onion rings.

Hmm. It dawns on me that I may be wrong and the fee may disappear on Jan 20. Then I’ll be REALLY annoyed.

Interesting…I order exclusively through the app (usually using a coupon) and I’ve never encountered a fee like that.

Is it regional/specific to that location?

It’s an underhanded way to raise revenue, imo…kind of like “resort fees” or Ticketmaster …you don’t find out about it until it’s too late.

$1* deluxe hamburger plus fries and large drink!

(Does not include $5 pre processing fee, $4 processing fee, $7 delivery charge, and would you like to add a gratuity you ungrateful, selfish jerk?)

Yeah, I don’t know. Despite hearing about this, again, 4 years ago, I’d never actually run across it until today.

My glasses broke on the weekend. I keep a spare set in the truck. Except I looked and there’s an empty glass case there. No glasses.
Drove home many hours wearing lopsided glasses like some sort of nerd. Now waiting on Zenni to ship me a couple new sets. Walking around hardly able to see.

On the flip side, I realized I can order glasses from Zenni with clear lenses, dirt cheap. When they come in, I’ll pop the lenses out of the old frames and into the new ones. Score, cheap glasses.

i forgot to call the cable company and have them move the line from the pole to the corner of the home to the new corner of the home. so contractor today was going to do it for me.

he asked about the phone line. we still have a landline and our phone service is voip through cable. does that mean we need a phone line? i have no idea. I try to ask cable company via the chat app. waste of 5 minutes. they connect me from the bot to a person in the chat - person doesn’t know anything. someone calls me. person doesn’t know anything. they think they know the department that would know. 15 minutes of collective hold. i get the message “they aren’t using the phone line at all.”

so contractor can more or less just cut that one I assume. i don’t care. but there’s 25 minutes i am never getting back.

related to the same project. spouse brings home like 13 floor samples. i point out 4 i hate right away. the rest…idgaf. she says she likes one and I say “book it and move on!” apparently, wrong answer. i’m not good at this apparently. pick any that you like and move on - that’s how you cross things off the list.
