Was walking past the local Dunkin Donuts, and someone had parked their large motorcycle in the hashed unloading area between the 2 handicapped spots. There was only one other parking spot occupied on that side of the lot. Even in the slim chance they had a handicapped parking permit, they made the other spot unusable for others that may have used it.
I’m trying to imagine the handicap that allows you to ride a motorcycle but not walk from the motorcycle to the door from a further away parking spot.
But yes, assuming such a condition exists, park in one of the two spaces and leave the loading zone available for someone else.
I’m at a 4 way stop to make a left eastbound. Buddy comes racing westbound to make the right northbound slowing to about 40 kmh and whips around the corner. And there’s a school about 100 metres ahead.
Will somebody think of the children!!!
To all the drivers who thought blocking cross traffic in a busy intersection so they could save a few seconds.
The cross traffic was backed up for an extra 10 minutes simply because only a few cars could get through at each green light. Traffic was a mess in the area as another main road was closed…
That used to be a $400 fine where I lived 20 years ago. Slap a $800 fine on them in today’s dollars (with big signs warning that will happen).
I think if people just drove like me there’d be no traffic issues EVAR!
is that fast or slow?
I don’t think we have an opposite thread (maybe insignificant signals)…but I have a “Happy Thoughts-Other Drivers Edition”.
I was leaving a McD’s parking lot this morning (I had some points for free food that were going to expire)
You know how mcds are “always” on the corner lot of a block? Keeping that in mind will help understand the situation…actually, here’s a picture:
I was exiting east, turning left (north), which would immediately bring me to the stop light where I needed to turn right (east). That stop light was red and traffic was starting to back up…especially the traffic in the right lane preparing to turn right…so I made a backwards-capital-C turn (actually , if drawn on this picture it would look like a U-turn…LITERALLY) to get in that line up…except I couldn’t quite make it and instead was on the shoulder next to a gal driving (oh, let’s say it was a Passat). She was properly in a lane that was going to become a right turn lane.
While we’re waiting, big truck guy comes up behind us. Usually, if this was bigass truck guy he would crowd up behind Passat lady so that everyone knew that he was bigass truck guy, but this was actually courteous truck guy, he left 1.5 car lengths between Passat lady and himself so that I would have room to slide in.
Light turns green and I’m perfectly happy to drop behind Passat lady (she was about a bumper ahead of me) but instead she waves me through. I’m not about to argue with her that she was there first and has a bumper ahead of me and I’m only here in a compromised position because of extenuating circumstances, so I give her a thank you wave and proceed.
to Passat Lady and Courteous Truck Guy for their consideration. May the stop lights
forever be in your favor.
Cheeky popcorn gif goes here.
Velocity under any measurement system should be 0 or fluffin’ close to 0 at a 4 WAY STOP THAT IS AROUND THE CORNER FROM A SCHOOL!!!
Is anyone handy with math on this forum?
I would say this is an uncommon problem as traffic typically flows pretty well along the state routes (the DOT does a nice job on timing the series of lights to prevent this). The issue is when non-standard traffic occurs due to an accident or closure. Really effing annoying when two idiots pile in the intersection along the main route that is all backed up saving them virtually no time at all while all the cross traffic that could flow freely beyond the intersection can’t advance at all for an entire light cycle.
This is one noticeable difference between my city and larger areas where it is more common for backups to block major intersections…no one even tries to help anyone out around here.
I was driving by the exit from a drug store when I saw a lady come racing up to the road. I thought for sure she wasn’t gonna stop!!
Saw one of those ugly Tesla’s yesterday on the way home…it appeared to be contractor owned. Anyway, rather than the standard back to the future silver, they had it in some translucent navy blue wrap, but also decided to advertise their company on it in shiny black letters. That’s a lot of money to spend on an outcome that was basically unreadable in any weather/lighting condition. Really wish I caught the name of the company so I could add them to the list of ones to avoid.
I’ve probably told this story before, years ago I lived in Topeka, and they installed a new roundabout near my office. Sure enough, first week it was opened, I saw someone going the wrong way. I was already in the roundabout but it was a two lane thing and he was in the inside lane so I managed to slip by him.
And I will confess to occasionally going the wrong way on the bike roundabouts in my city if there’s no traffic and I’m making a left.
The way they’re usually designed, a motorist has to go to great effort to go the wrong way.
I’ve seen someone going the wrong way in a roundabout more than once.
Both? I’ve seen cars go through the center.
I look both ways on one way streets (which paid off on more than one occasion).
With roundabouts I have to scan about a 150 degree sector to be sure!
