Annoyed Thoughts: archive 1

I’m pretty sure I’m the only person in my building who has spectrum (both internet and cable). At first I was gonna get fios, but then the fios guy failed to show up, i got pissed and told them to fuck off. later just got spectrum internet, and upgraded to cable years later during the pandemic.

All Amy’s food is vegetarian, but they do use non-vegan cheese (and perhaps other dairy?) in many of their products.

One of their frozen dinners that I will buy if it’s on sale is the 3 cheese & kale bake. I was surprised to learn that it’s made with rice pasta. Not that I screwed up and bought the wrong variety… the one with rice pasta seems to be the only 3 cheese & kale bake they make. Pretty tasty and I didn’t really notice the rice pasta.

But their chili stuff is no bueno. I don’t like fake meat. Big fan of naturally vegetarian food, but not stuff that’s supposed to have meat and doesn’t.

yes, i’m saying with the lasagna, they have a truly vegan option that’s also gluten free, that’s not good, but they also have a vegetarian option with regular cheese that’s really good.

i also like the 3 cheese & kale bake and buy it often.

Ugh, I had that problem when I was in the Northwest. There would only be like one tv provider that carried FOX/ROOT Sports Northwest unless you bought the mega super premium package plus optional sports upgrade at like quadruple the price of the one carrier that included it in their expanded basic package. So again, I empathize.

Fortunately less of a problem in my current location.

oh, i don’t think i’ve ever tasted their chili stuff.

I think gluten is more about texture than flavor.

Then again, whatever they do to try to fix the texture may harm the flavor…

yeah, not sure. all i know is the vegan gluten free version of the exact same vegetarian lasagna is not even close to as good as the gluten and cheese filled one.

Probably the cheese. Vegan cheese is not good. Rice pasta is fine though, if that’s what made it gluten free.

I don’t cook special items for others. I have a niece that requires way too much. Panto-allergic, to paraphrase Lucy’s (the real one’s) description. So, we tell her to make her own, go get her own groceries, etc. And she’s fine with it.

I guess I missed the original explanation of what this means :-?

Allergic to everything.

(I hope I’m setting you up, and that the R is being N’ed.)

I’m afraid it’s not being N’d by me.

but the non-vegan one doesn’t claim to be gluten-free, so i think it’s more than just the vegan cheese that makes the vegan one suck. i think it’s also some lack of gluten that the other one has.

Oh I’m not disputing that. Just saying that I’ve discovered that rice pasta actually tastes fairly good, so that’s a less likely culprit of the vegan GF one tasting bad.

My wife’s cousin can basically only eat grass fed beef. Allergic to everything else.

How does she get her vitamins?

I’m not sure. I’ve never actually met her. There are probably a few other things she can eat, but not many.

Back when I was eating gluten free, I found the rice pasta was OK as long as you ate it within a few minutes of being cooked. After that, it tended to dissolve and become gelatinous.

Interesting observation.

I notice that cheap semolina (ie regular, not gluten-free) pasta sticks to itself a lot more than better quality semolina pasta… I assume because it’s just disintegrating into a sticky mess.

I’ve let the Amy’s 3 cheese & kale bakes (made with rice pasta) sit uneaten if I bring them to work and then work gets in the way of me eating them. Haven’t noticed the pasta dissolving into gelatinous goo, but then the dish is fairly cheesy so I might have just assumed it was cheese.

Or maybe there’s different quality levels of rice pasta just like semolina pasta???

I can’t really say for sure either way.

i dunno. i heat up and eat it immediately. :woman_shrugging:t2:

they didn’t have the cheese and kale bake the last few times i was at the supermarket :frowning:

i did score some gluten filled vegetarian lasagna today though.
