Annoyed Thoughts: archive 1

My understanding is that the tax preparation industry has lobbied extensively against this, and has so-far been successful.

Of course it wouldn’t work for everyone, but a simple checklist would probably be enough to tell if you need to prepare your own. And I’m pretty sure I’ve read that a standardized calculation from numbers the govt has would work for a majority of taxpayers.

I’ve reheated my coffee three times today because the first two times I left to do something else and forgot to go back and get it. :coffee:

Sounds like you need some coffee.

Eh, I’ve been a volunteer tax preparer for elderly & low income folks for a bunch of years now.

If our software can keep track of “even years only” and “odd years only” for claiming the kids, the IRS could make the software more readily available.

Yeah, you’d have to tell the software “not claiming the kid(s) this year even though it’s my turn” or vice versa.

But they could have your W-2s and 1099s and such entered for you.

But there’s big money involved in making taxes as difficult as possible.

This is exactly correct, as is the rest of the post.

My little loin fruit has a plantar wart. Those little buggers are the worst. Stocked up on Compound W patches and duct tape. Hoping it doesn’t spread to me or anyone else.

Ouch. I had one of those as a preteen, it hurt so bad, then after it got frozen out by the doctor, I had a gnarly hole in my heel for a bit. Hope your loin fruit feels better soon and it doesn’t spread.

I had one in college on the heel of my foot, took the DIY route. Duct tape helped kill the skin, but it took several months. Eventually I could see the seed and dug the ****er out of my foot. Left a crater for a while but that hurt way less than the wart had.

I don’t think my 5yo will let me perform DIY surgery on him, so I’m hoping the salicylic acid is enough to suck it out. It’s on the ball of his foot, not the heel, so I think the skin is a little thinner there at least.

Spilled on my shirt 5 min after getting dressed.

My mom tried the DIY route to get rid of some warts, and ended up allergic to aspirin. :frowning:

I had one in the middle of the palm of my hand when I was a teenager. Huge sucker. Couldn’t dig it out as it would always come back. At home freeze kits did nothing. So I pressed the tip of a hot iron to my skin right on top of it and held, quite painful and gross to see my skin melt off, but it killed the sucker.

Don’t really recommend that route, but it is an option.

Also another reason why i am quick to forgive teenagers for doing stupid things because my brain as a teen was a little behind on practical smarts

I’m gonna owe money to the taxman this year. Me annoyed.

Mine are all jacked up. Probably will be this year too. It’s hard to estimate 2021 since I can’t go off of 2020. Oh well. It all comes out in the wash. :woman_shrugging:

It probably doesn’t help much for me to mention that you’ve been receiving an interest-free loan from the government.

Then I can’t buy that ivory back scratcher I wanted. :unamused:

I eat amy’s vegetarian frozen dinners a lot. It is so annoying when I go to the supermarket and they only have the gluten-free version of their vegetarian lasagna. who the fuck eats that crap? the regular version with yummy yummy gluten is awesome.

Getting the runaround from Spectrum right now. I have a tuning adapter (with a TiVo and a cable card) that somehow allows me to get premium channels. But last night the premium channels stopped airing on my TVs.
So, I’ve chatted on support. Said they need to send a technician, first available NEXT Sunday.
So, I told them it was unacceptable, that I pay good money to get premium channels, and do I have to make a complaint to the FCC? (Other message boards say that’s a good way for faster service.) So, no I’m waiting for a manager, I think.
OK, special escalated ticket, they’ll call within the hour to get me a technician faster. Not as annoyed as I was.

I can empathize. Spectrum is THE worst. They had a monopoly on internet service in my neighborhood for years and man they took advantage.

Then another internet provider came in and literally everyone switched. I recall the sales lady commenting that she was really shocked as she’d never been so warmly received in like 20 years of doing door-to-door sales.

People would be really suspicious when they opened the door and realized it was a salesperson. But the instant they heard “alternative to Spectrum’s internet service” they were like “yes please GOD… where do I sign… a million blessings to you and your family for delivering me from this hell.”

That was maybe 3 or 4 years ago and while the service is far from perfect… it’s so many light-years better than Spectrum that it feels petty to complain.

I just realized the gluten free aspect is likely not the problem. The gluten free one is also VEGAN on top of that. Gross!

I have a competitor, but they dropped the local Fox Sports networks that show the LA Kings, as well as beIN Sports (La Liga soccer) and HDNet Movies (uncut, un-commercialed, un-sped-up movies). I cannot abide by that.

We switched to them as soon as they were offered. Both have the shittiest DVRs imaginable, so I bought a TiVo and a TiVo Mini for the superior DVR format and operation several years ago (I discussed on AO (RIP)). This Tuning Adapter and Cable Card are required in order to operate my TiVo, and we watch pretty much everything previously recorded (or delayed, in the case of live).
