I’m like 9 hours drive north, deep in the bush, saw snow today, it’s cold so no bugs.. And yet there’s an ever luvin fly in the tent. And it won’t stop landing on me.
its like when you have to use a satellite bathroom. only thing worse than being in there and having a fly buzzing around is when it lands on you. ugh.
Waiting outside to pick my kid up from an event. Saw a car try to back into a spot and hit the car next to the spot it was aiming for. It then drove off. I waffled too long between trying to take a picture of the car and memorizing the plate and managed to do neither. Who just drives off?
Holy crap, this gave me a little clarity on the mess of health insurance/patient assistance programs that literally no insurance rep or copay assistance program rep has ever given me.
I’m still very confused but NOBODY has been able to give me any straight answers to anything. They’re all confused about my questions - the insurer is confused about my assistance going toward deductibles, my assistance program tells me to contact the insurer, the doctor’s office just has no clue. This is the first time I’ve heard of a CAAP, I really appreciate it.
Oh yeah, and HR is confused about my question of having an HSA on my spouse’s plan because I am eligible for (but not contributing to) an FSA. Three rounds of fighting over that one and then they agreed.
Once again, we have a fairly contentious mayoral election (although primary results make it seem the current mayor is likely to win 60-40 or so).
Last night, there was a debate between the 2 candidates, and the challenger:
- Stated we shouldn’t be requiring vaccinations for kids in school
- Wants the city to start a cryptocurrency called “WitchCoin” to raise funds
- Stated that 25% of students left the 8 schools annually in the school district over the last 3 years (We have 10 or 11 schools, depending on how you count them, and the real number is about 1%)
- Told a student that asked about transgender rights that they should ask about something important
So now I’m annoyed that 1/3-2/5 of the city thinks this idiot should be mayor.
Oh, so an idiot.
Do I remember that you are Canadian? On the whole you guys seem better but man you get some loonies too.
My wife is Canadian, but I’m American and we currently live in Massachusetts.
Are you & your spouse getting insurance on the same plan through one of your employers? If so, which one? If not, are you each getting your own plan through each employer? Something else?
I’ve prepped tax returns for folks who over-contributed to HSA plans and it’s a hassle… for them.
Separate plans, married, same employer, one HDHP and one low-deductible plan.
Looking to max out an HSA (for one person, I know we can’t double up) on the HDHP plan and contribute to a limited-purpose FSA (dental+vision only) for the other plan.
After HR sent me a PDF saying I can do exactly that (but claiming it said I could not), I highlighted the relevant parts and returned it, they agreed I could.
Yeah, that sounds legit.
In fact, if Wife has HDHP only and Husband has LDHP only, then the IRS allows:
Wife HSA: $3,600 (or $4,600 if she’s age 55+)
Wife LPFSA: $2,750
Husband LPFSA: $2,750
That said, your employer is permitted to place further restrictions.
Ah, a TFSA is completely different from an FSA, yes? I was thrown as this isn’t my specialty and they sounded similar. But I can’t contribute to a general-purpose FSA with spouse contributing to an HSA.
You know what; you’re right. Your traditional FSA counts as “coverage” for your spouse. Yet another insidious marriage penalty.
I corrected my post.
Awesome, I know you were just helping, but I’m sure you understand the need for specificity. Appreciate it.
HR kind of hates me, I think..
(Sidenote - did not realize spouse could have an HSA and a LPFSA, that is news to me.)
Of course… precision matters with this stuff.
HR always hates me. One year I noticed a W-2 error and they told me I was wrong. Back & forth and they wouldn’t budge. I asked co-workers to check theirs and like 1/3 of theirs were wrong too. So they started calling HR. Turns out that roughly 1/3 of the entire company was wrong and by now the word was out. So they figured out that there actually WAS a problem and they had to reissue W-2s for around 1/3 of the entire company.
The errors were small (mostly under $100), but still… I’d already done my taxes using my 12/31 pay stub, so I noticed the error straight away.
Social Security used the wrong info though, and I still need to fix that.
Oh, I have a bunch of other HR hates me stories too…
Yep, she sure can!
One of many articles about it:
https://www.wageworks.com/employees/support-center/support-and-faq/healthcare/limited-purpose-fsa/what-is-a-limited-purpose-fsa/
Again, what the IRS allows. Your employer is allowed to restrict further.
Our HR forgot to account for taxation in a $500 bonus we were given and noticed it several years later… Sent out a corrected W-2 for us to amend our taxes, I never did. Figure on the small chance the IRS catches their years-old mistake and I pay a few hundred dollars, that’s worth my time to not bother with it.
Yeah, that’s the kind of thing where, if they were going after you for something else then they’d tack that on. But that alone would be unlikely to trigger them to go after you.
Cash-strapped wage-taxing states and cities might be more likely, if applicable.
Had someone try to use my SSN to open a bunch of credit cards. My credit is now locked down so that can’t happen. Annoying, yes. But the most annoying part is trying to contact the banks and get them to understand that I did not apply for their card and the reason they have incomplete information is because of fraud. To go one farther, one of these applications was in the spouse’s name and since the fraudster didn’t use her SSN, the bank can’t even figure out how to cancel the application because the application is tied to the SSN. My spouse was on the phone for over 45 minutes and finally just hung up. F Chase and I hoped they get scammed for a lot of money just for being idiots.
I can never have a T-Mobile phone because someone tried to use my SSN to open an account. They caught it, but the hoops I’d have to jump through to get my SSN removed from their shit-list were preposterous. So I’m not doing it.
They don’t want me as a customer, obviously, so they are getting their way.
Why does Google News keep giving me updates on Maine’s COVID counts?? Did I click it once or twice, just to see what’s up? FYI, Maine’s COVID counts are 883 new cases over the past three days. I don’t even know if that is normal or not. And I don’t want to click to find out.
