Annoyed Thoughts: archive 1

???

i get annoyed when alarm bells are rung without good context. preface - i have no doubt covid is a mess and stressing the hell out of everyone, healthcare system included.

but telling me that the ICUs are at “90% capacity” doesn’t mean much to me without knowing what historically regular capacity is. it’s one line for the story that adds so much.

i also feel this when they tell us “blood banks are low and donations are desperately needed.” I don’t know what that means. Point to a recent local death influenced/caused by the shortage.

i must be in a shitty mood today i guess.

One doesn’t necessarily need the latter just because of the former…unless you change the former to cleaning the second story 1960s windows, then, yes, one does need a ladder.

I see your point. I agree. What are the consequences of the current state of low blood supply?

Ideally, the Red Cross aims to have a five-day supply of blood available at all times to meet the needs of hospital patients. This also includes having a safety net to be prepared for emergencies when large volumes of blood products could be needed.

In a situation when blood products aren’t readily available, elective surgeries may need to be postponed. In a worst-case scenario, when a hospital doesn’t have enough blood supply, even serious procedures may need to be delayed.

When people annoy the fuck out of me, i’m really bad at having a nice diplomatic way to tell them to quit it. I hint at it, then I become a huge bitch, and then friendship ends. Not sure if there is an easy way to salvage friendships when someone is truly annoying the shit out of you with their actions, or they don’t want to stop anyway, so it’s pointless to try and be diplomatic.

Agree. Especially about ICU capacity, but really all of it.

This reminded me of a story that I think I’ve told once before but it’s relevant.

This was a couple of years back when I was living in Ontario. A friend of mine from elementary school was having a sort of mid-life/mommy crisis and needed a weekend away from home, so I invited her and another one of our friends up to Toronto for a weekend with me. I booked and paid for a room for all 3 of us at the Shangri-La, and I planned a Cocktails and Secret Bars Tour for that Saturday night. I even met them both at the airport at middle-of-the-night AM with a glorious, glitter-fied poster board.

After what ended up being a hilarious, sleep-deprived morning of wandering around TO looking for open places that served coffee and perusing Ripley’s Aquarium (the hotel did not let us in that morning because I didn’t check in the night before and they thought I was MIA), we took a long nap, and then went walking around downtown. I don’t recall now what I was doing - maybe I was walking sideways tripping on myself, or giggling at nothing, or perhaps I was just telling a stupid joke - but suddenly my friend did the thing she always does where she punches me in the arm and tells me to “stop being annoying”.

Now I’m 30 years old at this point - I don’t remember the last time I allowed anyone over the age of 5 to punch me without getting shit for it. And for the first time in my life, without thinking, I turned around, looked her straight in the eyes and asked her semi-angrily “Are you going to be annoyed with everything I do this weekend?” and she was utterly stunned (she managed to mumble out a soft “no” and we carried on after that like nothing had happened).

But something did happen. And it wasn’t that I suddenly became “less annoying” to my friend of 25+ years, but that I had established some fucking boundaries for myself (finally). My friend felt the shift too, and I can honestly say that she’s been a lot better of a friend to me for having experienced it.

Anyways, I guess there are several points here. One being that making yourself an easy target can make bullies out of even your closest friends. But also, [redacted].

Played in a 9:45pm soccer game last night. Am very much DNGAF mode today.

…does that make it a happy thought? I’m not sure, and am annoyed by my indecision.

Not exactly my own annoyed thought, but…

I got a massive crack in my windshield on my road trip (ok there’s an annoyed thought of mine) so I’m at the auto glass place. They can’t come to me like they used to because my new car has cameras that require calibration at the actual facility (so there’s another annoyed thought of mine.)

Another customer came in… had an appointment to get a new windshield for her Toyota Sienna. A Toyota Sienna. Not exactly a Delorian or a Model A or some other rare specialty vehicle.

The auto glass shop - as in a company that does NOTHING besides deal with auto glass - ordered the wrong windshield for her vehicle so she has to come back in two weeks when the correct windshield comes in. They didn’t realize that her vehicle has a feature that heats the windshield wipers and the one they ordered won’t allow that feature or several others (like headlights) to work. She was supposed to tell them that her car had this feature without them even asking her.

I am annoyed on her behalf. That’s absurd. I had to drive 40 minutes to get to this place which is the only one in the metro area of > 1 million people that can do the camera calibration so I basically had no choice. I’d be pissed if I drove 40 minutes and then couldn’t get my windshield replaced. Guy was barely apologetic… essentially blaming her for buying a car that had this feature. Again… a freaking Toyota… what a positively CRAZY car purchase!!!

As it is, they are working on my car but can’t replace the wipers (recommended for the level of damage my windshield sustained) because they don’t stock those particular wipers. I can cope with that.

Me too. It’s your fbeeping job, auto glass shop!
