I think Trump is implementing the objective of that schedule F document from the Heritage Foundation. He basically wants the cabinet and the layer of civil service just below cabinet filled by loyal people. If you remember there was talk about how to eliminate generals by charging them with treason or saying they are not on assignment. I assume the objective is to then appoint his own generals
What you then have is a national army that basically behaves like a personal army for the Maga.
Hegseth doesn’t know what ASEAN is, won’t answer whether or not he would follow illegal orders from Trump, and the committee chair won’t let the members see the FBI background report. Sounds awesome.

It should be pointed out that no one disputed that Mattis or Esper were qualified for the job, and Esper came bearing some hard core conservative credentials. I disagree with Hegseth about the value of women in the military, but it is his utter lack of any reasonable qualifications that is the problem.

He already gets that. Presidents get about 4,000 political appointees. Schedule F is about getting below those 4,000.
It’s 2025. If someone can’t answer a yes / no question about whether or not Biden won the 2020 election, they shouldn’t be in the cabinet. And definitely not in charge of DOJ.
Unfortunately, I think you’re correct for the wrong reasons. “Was the 2020 election stolen?” was a primary vetting question for Trump’s campaign team. If you said no, you weren’t hired.
Whether a candidate believes that Biden stole the 2020 election will matter. If they publicly admit Biden legitimately won, it’s harder to get the GOP to confirm.
