Advice needed. Best Halloween candy

None of my local markets carries packages of full size candy (except 6-packs of Hershey’s bars) so I’m doing “fun sized”.

Well as per my post in another thread… 60% of my grocery shopping is at Costco and they DO have full-size bars.

as all years, i will have no candy. candy makes you fat kids and rots your teeth. also, i hate you and your noisy ways and your parents even more so no candy for you!

also, i won’t be home anyway. huh, maybe the house i’m going to will be giving out candy. unsure. never been there on halloween before.

all these years, have there been a single razor blade in candies?

also, please let me know who’s giving out free drugs!!

maybe i should give out dieting tips instead. kids are fat these days.

There was a widely-publicized case when I was a kid of a child who died from eating cyanide-laced pixy stix. But like the Tylenol “tampering” case, it turned out the kid was poisoned by his father.

Trick or truth? The real story behind Halloween candy tampering | CBC News

Another oft-cited case is that of an optician in Deer Park, Texas, named Ronald Clark O’Bryan who handed out Pixy Stix candy to several children while trick-or-treating with his two kids in 1974.

His eight-year-old son, Timothy, died suddenly that night after consuming the candy, and an autopsy later showed the boy had ingested cyanide.

Police managed to recover the poisoned candy from other children before anyone else ate it but grew suspicious when O’Bryan couldn’t remember the house at which his son had received the candy.

It was later determined he had poisoned his own son. He was convicted and executed for the crime in 1984.

There are also a smattering of cases of people handing out stuff that’s not suitable to give to kids, and the occasional needle that might have been put there by the kid, but at any rate, was seen and didn’t hurt anyone. And a funny story of a dentist who gave kids candy laced with a laxative. He may have invented the idea.

The first report of Halloween treats being tampered with in North America was in 1959.

That Halloween, a California dentist named William Shyne distributed 450 laxative-laced candies to children — 30 of whom fell ill. He was later charged with “outrage of public decency” and “unlawful dispensing of drugs.”

But no, I don’t think there are any documented cases of a stranger killing a kid via adulterated Halloween candy.

We give out fun sized but have a big variety (see 30+ bags above), spread them out on a table outside, and let them choose several. Wife is adamant about a big selection.

she’s a doctor. why does she want to make children fat?

I’m pretty sure that offering kids soda every day is more important in making them fat than a seasonal candy feast.

it all adds to it

Childhood nostalgia.

Wait, is that 30 different kinds of chocolate and candy???
