Actuarial Chess Club

If it gets the tournament started, I will fall on the sword and bump up to group B. Do note, I fully expect to be relegated back to group C for the next round due.

Either you or @Macroman whoever does it first. Macro said he would on Sunday but still hasn’t so it’s all yours if you want it! There are 1200, 1160, and 900 rated players in Group B right now FWIW

@Bro you can join here if you lost the link: Login - Chess.com

Is it too late for a new person to join? What’s the time control?

@Grizz Today is the last day to join this round, you can enter using this link: Login - Chess.com

The tournament is a daily tournament, you have 3 days to make a move before you flag. These games generally take anywhere from a week to 3 months depending on how fast you play. We have a hierarchy of promotion relegation too.

I think I’m in, thanks.

I’m in to Group B (as Thtevie). Probably ought to remove me from Group C.

Aaannnnnd no more work today…

The tournament starting reminded me why I like this new setup so much better than the way it was run on the AO. The biggest pain point there was getting the games started, and this new way does that for you!

Finally broke the 1,000 rating points gained in blitz since I started 6.5 years ago.

A move I really liked from my game against Mizizark. White to move and draw

b3? Seems like it lets you snatch the a & b pawns without allowing the push to b3 for black. Generally the only way to win these opposite colored bishop endgames is when the pawns are way spread out so that would be my best guess. Not sure I would have thought of that without being prompted for it, really neat move if that’s it.

Yep that’s it. Kind of funny move to just give up that pawn but if white gets there first it is game over

Agreed. Good puzzle.

Lost a game due to timing out for the first time in years yesterday. Feels bad man

I think that happened to me a couple games this tournament. If I play right away, then I ended up doing 20 moves in a day. If I delay, I forget about the time limit.

Finally broke 1800 blitz! Next goal is to break that rating OTB.

Nice work. I do my best work in 2-3 hours per player games, never seemed to be good at blitz.

I really want to play OTB again, it’s been like over 4 years now. I’d like to play in one of those big tournaments (70+ players per section)

Once my kids are a bit older I think I’ll take a week in Vegas or Philly to play in one of those massive opens. I love long games.

In June I’m playing in a 21 person U1900 section, which includes devilrox. Hoping my long games isn’t too rusty after the pandemic.

I almost entered the u19 section in the National Open in Vegas next month but the weekend didn’t work for me. I’ll find something
