My OTB is like around 1750, though I play very infrequently. My online rating for correspondence is anywhere from like 1600-1800. For live games my blitz and bullet are usually in the 1200-1500 range and rapid is a little higher, like 1625 but none of them are as high as my OTB.
also my rapid OTB rating is lower like around 1600 I think, but still higher than online.
@Macroman@IPD There are over 50 people that show up every week. When I play an opponent, we will switch colors and play at least twice. As white, I’ll play the Ruy Lopez when given the chance. As black, I play e5 against e4 and sometimes the Scandinavian. Against d4 I’ll always play Nf6, trying to aim for a Nimzo.
Against beginners I’ve won every single time. Against intermediates I have a >.500 record, and against advanced players I have a <.500 record. I’m pretty comfortable playing against the common openings (French, Caro Kann, Hyper-accelerated/Accelerated/Dragon, Pirc, Petrov, etc). As I’m strictly an e4 guy, I never see any Benoni or Benko.
I’d actually say openings are probably the weakest part of my game, but I do spam puzzles and puzzle rush on chess dot com, so I can find nice tactics here and there in the middle game. My endgame is not bad.
I always play NF6 against d4 as well, and shoot for the Benko. I’ve played it 3 times OTB in tournaments over the last decade, twice against the same player! (I’ve only played like 15-20 OTB games over the last 10 years …)
The first time I scraped by where I was barely even through the middle game but won in the end game. I studied that one and realized where I could’ve done better. When I played him again, we got to the same exact position and I made better moves based on my studies and crushed him. Loved that so much. The other time I played the Benko I did well, had some great tactical play, and then panicked thinking my position was going to fall apart and ended up losing.
Do you know what the player’s ratings are when you play them? How would you assign beginner/intermediate/advanced?
I remember we’ve discussed puzzle ratings a few times here. At one point I had crested 2900 and was hoping to get to 3000. I bounced around a bit, then eventually dropped down around 2800, then I stopped doing puzzles for months. I recently came back to it and am now up around 3050.
I got to 2999 puzzle rating trying to get 3000, and then dropped back down to ~2800. So close to breaking that 3000.
My USCF classical and chesscom blitz are both in the 1800s. I am very very terrible at OTB blitz or rapid though, routinely losing to players a few hundred rating points lower than me in OTB classical.
I don’t think people strictly follow the guideline but for beginners it’s <1200, intermediate is 1200-1600, and advanced is >1600. Since Daily is my highest rating I just classify myself as an intermediate.
I should note that I don’t have a mouse, which does put me at a disadvantage in time scramble..maybe I should get one.
As far as puzzle rating, the highest I’ve gotten was 2744, and I was quite proud of it too. Currently it’s at 2629. For Puzzle Rush my highest 3 min score is 28, 5 min score is 32, and Survival score is 39 (all without a mouse).
Edit: Stayed in this Friday night and decided to do a Puzzle Rush Survival attempt. I got a 47!
I personally wanted Hikaru to win the candidates. I really am not the biggest fan of the Candidates/WC format. I don’t think Ding deserves to play terrible chess and then still participate in a WC match.
Every morning, I accidentally check my news feed before youtube.
Gotham of course has videos like “GUKESH!!!111111?” but the news just has headlines like “Ding fails to win game x”, which makes me not even want to bother.
Anyway, it will be neat if we get a teen champ, but I’d rather watch Magnus grow old defending his crown forever.
That Gukesh move after the Ding Liren is something you would see in Puzzle Rush. Did the World Chess Champion just simply forget how to play chess? Maybe I’m being too harsh.
