Good news, Alvinaki responded. I invited chess4skool (rated around 1600) and alvinaki (was rated 1500+ before he lost a bunch of games on time) to group B. Hope you don’t mind joining Group C @BruteForce.
This will likely mean Group C will indeed be split into C and D. The hope is to get at least 5 players in each group.
No need! We already have 6 people who will play in B. A is set as is and requires no change…besides, I’ve been tilting against you in our recent daily games so I need that to change sometime soon
I (the one with flexing squirrel picture) sent you an invite via private message on chess dot com. Please join within the next few days.
Once Brute joins, that leaves us at 9 people for C and D. Ideally would like at least 5 people for each group (6 would be better but not sure if probable). We really need at least 1 more person.
List of possible remaining people:
Katiekattt - They expressed interest on reddit but haven’t checked their reddit or chess dot com account recently
JustChillJoe - They played in the first two actuarial tourneys. I sent them an invite to C but they did not accept.
Person above with lichess of 1500 - @IPD reached out..don’t know if they responded back
Crintaee - They participated in the Big Ol Actuarial tourney so i messaged them asking if they were interested in participating in this tourney.
The good news is A and B are officially filled up and set.
I think there should be a “Withdraw” link on the right side of the page you can click to get out. I am not sure if you can do this via the app, but I know you can do it via the website. If you can’t get it working let me know and I can kick you out as the moderator, though I am not sure if that bans you or anything so best to do it yourself if possible.
@SredniVashtar@BruteForce@J0EBL0W and really anyone relatively new to chess: if you all have time and don’t mind watching Youtube videos, I highly recommend watching IM John Bartholomew’s 5 video series titled “Chess Fundamentals”.
The whole series is about 6 hours long (I’m currently watching it too) and it is very helpful. Gothamchess has cool videos, but they’re more focused on openings and defenses. Rather than focusing on openings, John really goes over the fundamentals, which IMO is more important than knowing/memorizing lines of theory.
So Carlsen lost to a young American player Hans Neimann in the St. Louis Sinquefield tournament and then withdrew.
Based on Carlsens non remarks afterwards, it appears he thinks Neimann cheated.
The chess world seems pretty split on whether they think he cheated or not. It’s pretty wild, and I think the best place to get updates on this right now is r/chess.
