You dip your hand in the water, definitely seeing something big rippling the surface of the water. The moat is so dirty that you can’t see into the water to tell how big the thing is. It does not seem attracted to your hand though.
Maybe it’s interested in me?
Dive in!
As you enter the water, a monstrous catfish as big as a horse rears up, but you manage to fend it off with your sharpened axe! Wounded, it sinks once more below the surface of the murky water. You are now treading water in the moat of Action Castle.
To be fair, if you had dived into the moat without first getting the axe sharpened you would have died.

Should we place the axe on the ground and dive back into the water, see if the fish wants seconds? Just so we can die?

Was just going to say, we’re not so good at dying this round
Dive down in the water looking to finish off the catfish and/or for some Lord of the Rings like scene with a ring in the muddy ground below
Thirsting for fish blood, you dive under water searching for the retreating fish. You can barely see under the water, but you think you see movement. Swimming down deeper, you lash out with your axe, hoping to get lucky. You don’t feel any resistance, so you swim down yet deeper. Barely able to even see your own hand, you lash out with your axe hoping to get lucky. Thinking that you can barely hold your breath any longer, your axe meets some resistance! You quickly pull it back and strike again. You can’t be sure, but you believe that you hit the giant fish hard with the axe. Suddenly the axe is pulled from your grip, down deeper into the moat. Unable to hold your breath any longer, you swim up to the top. Gasping for air, you revel in your ability to kill creatures that were just minding their own business mere minutes ago.
You are now within reach of the walls to Action Castle. You notice a stone in the wall that looks like it might be loose.

then attempt to remove the stone
Should we try and purposely die so we can get our axe back, then go look at the stone?
Though our attempts at dying haven’t been successful yet…
You don’t have to die, you can just reload from last save.
You pull with all your might and are able to pull the stone free, dropping it to the bottom of the moat. Behind the stone you see a tunnel leading through the castle wall.
Damn that’s one big ass stone we pulled out.
