20Q Game 30

There’s also a button that has numbered list on it, so I don’t have to even type numbers at all. But this button does not appear to work when I click it on mobile.

It’s hollow, but may not be water tight.

:bump:

Okay… would this item be commonly found in a specific room in the house?

  1. (VA) Is it a physical object? Yes
  2. (Tiffany) Does it breathe oxygen? No
  3. (Celalta) Is it man-made? Yes
  4. (JFG) Is its primary use for recreation purposes? No
  5. (1695814) Is it larger than a bread box? This object comes in many sizes. The most common are not larger than a bread box. Some are larger than a breadbox.
  6. (JFG) Is it typically utilized indoors? Yes
  7. (VA) Is it typically used on or near the ground? No
  8. (1698514) Does it use electricity? No
  9. (JFG) Is it typically stationary when in use? I’m defining stationary as even if not secured to a surface, it doesn’t significantly move locations, such as a photo frame or clock. Yes
  10. (JSM) does it float? No
  11. (JFG) Do most first world people have one? No
  12. (Twig) Given the item, would you typically find it in a home? Yes
  13. (1695814) does it have writing on it? Yes
  14. (Tiffany) would this item be commonly found in a specific room in the house? No

Do most people use it daily?

Hint: The reason question 6 gave me pause was in figuring out what exactly it means to “utilize” this object

If most people don’t have it, I assume most people wouldn’t use it daily. Unless there’s something we use daily indoors but don’t own.

dammit! you’re right. I suck at this game.

Unofficial: maybe it’s a snake (auger).
In case a plunger wasn’t enough.

It’s ok; I asked something dumb in the last game.

I think I asked if it was alive after we’d already determined that it was man-made.

I’m thinking “no” because of these:
Is it typically used on or near the ground? No - unless you think that it’s typically used on the ground-floor bathtub, I suppose.
Is it typically stationary when in use? I’m defining stationary as even if not secured to a surface, it doesn’t significantly move locations, such as a photo frame or clock. Yes - well, it doesn’t move locations but it does move quite a bit
Do most first world people have one? No I think every homeowner needs a snake
Does it have writing on it? Yes I don’t think I’ve ever seen one with writing on it.
would this item be commonly found in a specific room in the house? No

Could be a Bible. Or some other special book.

Going to go out on a limb and say that most first world people do not have one.

  1. There are WAY more people in the first world than there are owner-occupied homes and there’s not much need to own more than one per home.

  2. Plenty of owner-occupied homes do not have one (even though I agree that they should).

That said, I still think you’re right that it’s not a snake.

Kinda depends on how you’re defining “recreation purposes” on question 4, but for most non-textbooks I think I’d say “yes”.

Is reading the Bible recreation? Eh, that’s not the word I’d use to describe Bible study, but if asked the question, I’d answer “yes”. It’s not like I’m paid to read the Bible, nor is it some chore that I must do or hire out like grocery shopping or laundry. So in broad categories it’d be recreation.

Now if it was an Actuarial Mathematics textbook, then definitely not recreation!

But a lot of people store those in their work cubicle/office.

Regardless, books are definitely not stationary when in use so I think that violates question 9.

ETA: Unless you’re talking about some book on display in a museum where the curator opens the display case and turns a page once a day and publishes a schedule of which day the book will be open to which page or something like that. But then that wouldn’t be in a home and would violate 12.

When I use a book it stays in one place. I mean, I sometimes walk around while I read, but not very often. Mostly, the book sits quietly in my lap or on a table.

Huh.

When I’m reading a book it travels from the bookshelf to the sofa back to the bookshelf to the comfy chair in my bedroom to my bed to my nightstand to my car where it rides to the doctor’s office to the waiting room to the exam room and then back to my car and back to my nightstand… lather rinse repeat until I’m done reading it.

I assume that at a minimum you move your books from the bookshelf to some other location like a chair or sofa where you read them and you’re not standing up reading them over the bookshelf nor storing them in the exact location where you read them.

I suppose some people do buy display books that they never read (some even have blank pages) and those would be stationary. I’ve never really understood the point of doing that, but people do.

Well, I consider the book “in use” when I am actually reading it. When I move it from the bookshelf to my lap, I have not yet started to use it, I am just preparing to use it. I don’t know how MayanActuary would have interpreted “in use”, but that’s how I would have interpreted “in use” if I were the one cluing.

HEATHEN!!!

I stand corrected.
