Mad Max returns to the Jays for his 19th MLB season
Max Scherzer has agreed to return to the Toronto Blue Jays on a one-year, $3 million deal. The contract includes $10 million in incentives that start at 65 innings pitched and no-trade protection, according to the source.
TOR should put him on IR until July or so. Cuz âinjured.â Opens a roster space, locks him down for themselves instead of his being a free agent until then.
I bought a Murakami White Sox shirt and it reminded me of my by far favorite Japanese White Sox moment that nobody else seems to remember - Tadahito Iguchi going horizontal and throwing under his body. I have to share. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vz0XmUkw9IQ
OK, whoâs playing for second in the NL and first in the AL?
You know what other teams â owners and GMs â need to do? WANT it (a Championship) more. They donât seem to want it more. Theyâll trudge through the too-long season hoping to get into the playoffs, and then hope to suddenly turn into Goliath-killers. Or, that some other team turns into Goliath-killers.
That said, most fans simply want a more socialist system in sports: distribute the wealth so they can retrieve some self-esteem regarding their team choice. Maybe the owners do, too, but they mainly want to make more money with less risk. If also add less hard work, thatâd be great, too.
Paying for the right players is hard work and includes risks.
Building a great minor league system is hard work and includes risks.
Giving the fans a profitable (to the owner) experience is hard work, and includes risks.
Looking at the BAL season, as I will be there in late June: they are away to the LAD â tickets start in the $60-$80 range â and then to the LAAoA right after â tickets start at $9. That is a major discrepancy for two teams in the second-largest market. But it tells you all you need to know about which team is preferred and which team should move to Oakland.
Then they play home v WAS. Tickets are mid-$30âs. Iâm probably too busy then anyway. Would be a nice park to remove from the bucket list.
One other thing: when one searches EPL and their revenue distribution, it is tied to placement in the table. When one searches the FA Cup, each win is worth some amount of money. For the owner (which I assume they put this into procuring players or something).
An MLB Baseball team (the owner) seemingly gets nothing for winning, at all. Nor for placing second or third in the division. These are seemingly not the goal in MLB Baseball. Playoff money all goes to the players, though it isnât a whole lot, relative to player salaries (except possibly for rookies). (Meanwhile the owner is presented the trophy. I prefer NHL and EPL where the players are presented the trophies/cups.)
Going into the 7th season of the changed extra innings rules, every time a game goes to extra innings, my first thought is âMan, I really hate the ghost runner ruleâ. I guess Iâm gonna think that during every extra inning game until I die.
I get that but prefer short overtimes in sports (for the regular season). I like being able to go to games on a weeknight and get home at a reasonable time. For games on the west coast, Iâm already shutting it off before the game is over.
I wouldnât mind so much if there was an old-style 10th inning before moving on to the ghost runner. Fairly close to half of extra inning games ended then, anyway.
