2026 FIFA World Cup Discussion

I checked and FIFA is selling a few tickets for the Semifinal in ATL: $15k for 2 tickets

This Spain vs France semifinal has the makings of an epic battle. There is so much star power on both sides. Hopefully it lives up to it’s potential.

This has been the most exciting World Cup in all of the decades I have been watching them. I expect Spain vs France will not disappoint.

The Final may be a bit of a letdown though as I don’t see any of the four teams playing tomorrow to be of the same calibre as France and Spain.

Well, except France or Spain.
Not sure why they were placed in the same bracket. They are #1 and #2.
I thought they split the tops.

We are in Paris on July 14th.

Spain vs France at 9pm + its also Bastille Day.

Told the wife its not a good idea for the little one to wear her Spain jersey on that particular day. /s

Maybe she could wear it for the game and quickly change into another outfit if it looks like Spain are going to win it with 10 minutes to go. It would be awesome if Spain could make it to the final.

Jayden Adams (South Africa) died.

When the bracket was made I think Argentina was in the top 2, possibly 1. I don’t remember for sure.

but at start I “think” the rankings were 1, Argentina, 2 Spain, 3 France, 4 England, 5 Brazil.

You are correct!

Per Wiki:

FIFA also announced that, “in the interest of ensuring competitive balance”, the teams ranked first (Spain), second (Argentina), third (France), and fourth (England) would be drawn into opposite pathways. Therefore, should these teams win their groups, they would be unable to meet until the semifinals.[105]

I think the Golden Boot tiebreaker should be non-PK goals, so self-interested PK’ers don’t feel the need to take them.

Juuuuuuuude

Tired of the “momentum” chart, which concludes… absolutely nothing about what is happening.
How is "momentum " defined, such that it means something?
And, what does it mean? Does current momentum lead to goals? If so, how often?
Is momentum necessary to score goals?

Everyone I know hates the momentum charts.

There’s a whole law about conserving it, so I would assume so

Jude has been superb in his last two matches.

Players must have sweated off litres today.

As much as I would relish an ENG-ARG match I would slightly favour the Swiss tonight.

Momentum in sports is a joke we discuss repeatedly. It’s a commentator thing for guys that have no factual information to convey. The team has momentum, until they don’t and the opponent surprisingly takes it.

For the graphic they are showing at this WC, seems roughly translated as game flow (momentum somehow defined as a combo or possession and chances). You have it until you don’t
