2026 FIFA World Cup Discussion

That will happen right after Boston declares it will hand over the keys of the city to ICE. MA is the bluest state in the Union

And then, like all tRump Internationals, it will go bankrupt.

Who got next?

Depends if FIFA promotes Iraq from the qualifier and moves UAE in or if they just promote UAE directly.

Iran is in Group G and the NZ/Egypt Group G match is the only WC game I could get tickets for. I was surprised that none of Iran’s matches were scheduled for Vancouver given the US visit restrictions on Iranians and given the large Iranian fan base here. Maybe they should keep open the option of relocating Iranian matches to Vancouver?

That FIFA peace prize sure is aging well.

Out of curiosity, I just went to the FIFA world cup ticket page. Right now it looks like you can buy tickets to a few of the Mexico games. Fingers crossed that they open up group stage games in my city.

OK, some relief for transit funds, though whose feet to kiss is TBD:

Would not be surprised if this latest behavior by Trump leads to a boycott of the World Cup in the US.

People are completely fed up and exasperated by his unhinged behavior in Europe.

Cheap soccer tix, for the intercontinental playoffs, available. Not sure hat the obsession is with the number “17”:

All one has to do is attend the matches in Guadalajara. Sure, it’s safe! Sure, you might not be able to cross back into the USA afterward, assuming alive, based on your social media posts.

Oh, and this little proclamation:

FIFA has about 7 million seats to fill for the World Cup matches and said last month it received 500 million ticket requests. FIFA president Gianni Infantino has proclaimed all 104 games are sold out and yet some fans received emails last week offering an extra 48-hour window for tickets sales.

“Mission Accomplished”?

Looks as if tRump billionaire fans will front funding so tRump can bash the lib enemy cities by not giving them funding, but secretly reimburse the billionaire those funds. Or, since it’s tRump, not. “Call it a donation.”

Foxborough says it needs $8 million for policing. I assume it is for the extra police it will need for the several matches, and not its own workforce. Only 18K people, after all.

FIFA will make a 160 million dollars on the Foxborough matches (conservative estimate on price), but isn’t putting up 2% of that for security?

It’s so expensive because FIFA requires the venues to have security for the entirety of the tournament, not just the matches.

One of the conditions of being “awarded” the World Cup is that the host picks up the tab for the level of security FIFA demands.

Well, its now official.

Probably the right decision. If their Group games had been scheduled in Canada that might have worked.

Does this mean that Iraq now qualifies, and Oman goes to the playoffs?

11 more countries out and we can have a normal 32-team tournament.

I don’t think Iran’s team is any less safe than the other Teams, seeing as local districts are not getting any funding for the additional security.
Add on the Miami fiasco of the Gold Cup, and it’s clear that attempts to enter the stadiums without tickets will happen. A lot.
Now, Iran’s Team’s players defecting? Sure, that might happen. Can hitch a ride to Tijuana, maybe.
