Reminder for those interested.
I’m entering the draw but not optimistic, as usual. My Whitecaps playoff tickets in contrast are easy to get and a fraction of the cost. That may be all the soccer I’m seeing in person in the near future.
He’s going to give this to Trump, right?
It would be far more awesome if he didn’t.
As it stands (that he is the likely recipient), I have one more reason not to watch the draw. (First one is, it is a waste of my time.)
I’m almost to the point where I want to boycott the FIFA World Cup because of Infantino and Trump.
It would be awesome if he gave the prize to Obama just for the Trump reaction.
Unfortunately, there is a 0% chance of anyone other than Trump getting it. Even if he declares war on the entire world in the meantime.
Fortunately our stadium is downtown and well-served by public transit.
I avoided RTBs on principle. I refuse to pay big dollars for the right to pay anything.
Will love to see FIFA’s 2025 and 2026 financials!
I predict some of those people are going to sue FIFA.
They have clearly gone too far in trying to extract money from fans.
FIFA likely buys into the NFL PSLs that extract a ton of money from fans. 20 teams currently have with more on the way. They exist in NBA, NHL and motor speedways as well. Murikans love to pay money for the right to buy. Not sure the rest of the world is with us.
So far, I have not received a notification in the early ticket lottery draw and I assume no news is bad news unless all those RTB folks opt out.
On the good news side, my sister and her husband got tickets to a match in SF. Apparently one of their friends got picked in this draw and they scored tickets today. They were happy they got a spot early in this window, as they said the tickets they bought in their desired price tier were all snapped up today.
So far that’s the only friend or family member I know that has been able to score a ticket.
No one I know has been successful.
Friendly in March on … grass?
The World Cup grass?
Isn’t it still Winter up there?
March 28 is usually early spring (barring a surprise late snowstorm).
ITA crying about rules that force them win 9-0 v NOR.
Hey, beat up on Moldova (combined 4-0) like NOR (combined 16-1) did, because you knew the rules going in.
Also, as the 6th best team in Europe as of 11/2024, beat NOR (24th in Euro) the first time around when the seedings were determined.
But, if he wants the top two to qualify in each Group, that would mean 5 groups of 10, some 11. That means 18 or 20 matches if home-and-home. That would take 9 or 10 cycles. So, stupid. Be lucky you get a second chance playing a bunch of runners-up for a spot.
Less than three weeks until the FIFA draw on December 5. This is when WC 2026 gets real for me.
