Gem of a game last night. Too bad it’s on so late back east. Can always watch the replay, I guess, but, it’s baseball.
Quick question: do catchers use pitch signs anymore?

It’s done with the pitch com now. Some pitchers call their own game but mostly it’s still the catcher I believe. But they don’t put fingers down anymore, they click buttons on their pitch com which the pitcher received in their hat.
Not in their anus??
Thanks ASS-tros!!
I was in the car, so turned on the game. One of the announcers mentioned that nobody there was cheering for the Toronto hits, when normally it is almost a Toronto home game. But he didn’t go to why at all.
Small Jays’ fans contingent for this game for several reasons. Harder to get playoff tickets than regular season tickets: I have been to games in Seattle with more Jays fans than Mariners fans in the stands. There is also the US travel boycott which reduced the regular season migration to the games this year.
Jays’ bats certainly came alive tonight but they like playing in Seattle: Jays swept the Mariners there this season but lost two of three in Toronto. Scherzer starts tomorrow night which could be an adventure.
Great advice from Jeter when Guerrero was a base away from hitting for the cycle in tonight’s game.
The Jays’ hitting funk seems to have been short-lived but they do hit well in Seattle. Jays just have to figure out how to beat Seattle in Toronto.
Disappointed that the Dodgers are cruising against the Brewers. I thought it would be a closer series.
yeah, this was probably the expected outcome. Brewers had chances to take a couple games. Game 2 Turang moved out of the way of a game-tying HBP game 1. Ump helped Freeman walk last night to move a runner into scoring position which led to the go-ahead run.
Brewer’s needed to get hot at the right time to move on and they aren’t right now. That’s the problem when you can’t really afford any power hitters.
Hopefully the AL can take the WS. Or maybe Dodgers can buy a few more WS and people will start to care how terrible MLBs revenue sharing system is.
Eh, they’ve been buying them for 13 years now. Result? Two.
With Kershaw retiring they should improve their odds.
Like half of those years they weren’t even spending double MLB average. Is that even trying?
Bigger payroll leads to Regular Season Wins. It allows a team to win more games versus the average and below-average teams. it allows a team to ready itself versus better teams over the long season.
Full Stop.
Period.
(Ignoring that…)
It does not provide an edge in short series, must-win games against elite competition, which this end-of-the-season Tournament is.
Bigger issue is that LA and NYC are only allowed to have two teams, cuz franchise. You want to dilute those teams’ financial power? Put more teams in their area.
I’m going to disagree with the short series comment… there’s certainly something to be said for having a deeper bullpen in these series where you can mix and match against certain hitters. Elite bullpen arms are also the least cost effective pieces of any team. If you can throw money around and not sorry about missing on expensive middle relievers (or 2-3 closer level relievers), you have a distinct advantage in the later innings of most post-season games.
If you don’t have the bigger payroll, and you’re in the post-season, its unlikely you have a bullpen advantage unless you had some luck (skill?) in drafting/developing arms in your farm system.
Nah, just put some tariffs in place ![]()
For the Canadian teams, sure…
Correction: team.
And, sadly, there may never be more than one.
On paper.
Only two WS titles tells me that it is doesn’t play out that way on the field, where it actually counts.
I mean, sure, cheating helps cut that advantage (side-eye at HOU).
Realistically, the Dodgers will win.
However I will be happy to see the Mariners in their first WS ever or the Jays in their first since 1993 regardless of the outcome.
Ohtani was incredible last night…10k, giving up 2 hits in 6+ IP, and getting 3 hits himself…all of which were HRs! Just wow…
