Then they managed to make a 12 run lead look shaky.
Yup. The Jays put in their second tier relievers after pulling Yesavage when it was 11-0 to give them some playoff experience. That is when the Yankees bats woke up. Jays then put in their better relievers in the last two innings to close it out.
Yankees will probably win the next two in Yankee Stadium so happy that the Jays won the first two.
I hope you’re right about the next two Cooke, but I’m not optimistic about the Yankees chances. But stranger things have happened.
Jays have hit Schlittler hard in prior outings so if they win one in Yankee Stadium it may be game 4.
One game. He struck out the first 2 Jays then got to 2 strikes on a lot of batters but couldn’t put them away. Of the 11 batters he faced after the B2B Ks, he has 2 strikes on 7 of them and only retired one of those 7.. Easily his worst start of his short career so far. 1.2 IP 4 ER.
Of all 5 games series in MLB playoffs 10 teams have come back from 0-2 to win, the Yankees were the last in 2017. But I’m guessing the teams that were up 2-0 won a lot more. I didn’t see the overall record the site I saw only had the comebacks.
This website doesn’t include last year.
Edit: Actually it does include last year - there were no 2-0 leads last year.
In a 5 game series, the team that is up 2-0 has gone on to win the series 88.9% of the time. When game 3 is at home, the odds of winning the series were 91.2% vs 87.5% if game 3 is on the road.
LAD keeps baseball interesting to watch. Cardiac arrests up in both cities.
I think I"m getting more pleasure than I should out of watching the Cubs get the very early lead, only to then get clobbered pretty quickly.
I again heard the game on the radio and noticed that MLB has an ad every half inning. Literally half of them were baseball terminology - in particular “Do you know what “oppo taco” means?” Well, yes, yes, I do, but even if I didn’t, I would have known what it meant after they told me after the first inning, and the second inning, and … The ads would have been ok if they had 9 different ones instead of 1 repeated over and over. Unless they were assuming you’d only listen to one inning and would miss the rest of the ads.
We get different ads in Canada than the US ones but sadly they are also the same ones over and over again.
They tried really hard to give that game away but the Phillies wouldn’t take it,
Dick pills, hair loss, and line of pharmaceuticals with a long list of side effects that sound worse than the disease in some cases is mostly what we get here in the US.
Thankfully, pharmaceutical ads are banned from Canadian tv.
Wow, unbelievable
Surely you didn’t expect the Yanks to just roll over!
Down 6-1 with the starter out in the 3rd and the Yankees shaky bullpen? I was not expecting baseball in the Bronx today at that point. I believe that was the first time all season the Jays have blown a lead of 4 or more. And they were something like 75-4 when they score 5 or more.
and how often have they made two errors in a game
Toronto played some uncharacteristic poor defense yesterday beyond the two errors. In the regular season the Yankees loss a least 2 games to Toronto with poor defense, it was nice to see that flip last night. But I’m not sure I’d count on Toronto giving runs away in G4 or G5, if necessary.
Jays paid dearly for that.
Not optimistic tonight as it is a bullpen game and the Jays’ relievers were tested last night. Will also depend on whether Schlittler repeats the magic he had against the Sox. If he does we will have a game 5.
But the real turning point was the two streakers according to Jazz Chisholm.
I haven’t paid attention to baseball in forever, how long has it been the booking.com divisional series?
Can’t blame this one on Judge - aside from the bases loaded K he had a great series. Pitching let them down, and Jazz booting the potential DP ball was just another one of their fielding woes that I knew would come back to haunt them. Congrats to the Jays.
