My BiL was working a polling station in Calgary last night and said that more than a few voters were angry that Poilievre’s name wasn’t on the ballot.
I’m thinking that with the NDP lacking official party status, Carney has a lot to offer them.

So Conservatives has gains, Liberals keep the government and the Conservative leader lost his seat? Does that cover everything?
Other noteworthy news would be the leader of the third largest party also lost his seat and resigned last night. His party lost official party status and related perks.
There are still a lot of votes to be counted and a small chance that Liberals could still get a majority.
A new cabinet will be constructed soon and Parliament will be recalled by the end of May to start dealing with the long Liberal agenda.
Is this their first time voting in Canada or something??
Many years ago, Canadian ballots didn’t even show the party affiliations on the assumption that the voter should at least know who their local candidates and their parties were. That assumption is no longer valid.
This is interesting. I read that the news orgs actually reversed some decisions, to the benefit of the liberals. There’s a lot of early ballots not yet counted, and the early ballots seem to heavily weigh towards the liberals.
There’s not that many seats to a majority. It’s still possible, perhaps even reasonable to consider a majority. Probably not, but a solid maybe.
Are they still counting in some areas, on Tuesday? You promised…
I said we would declare the winner last night and we did. I didn’t say all the ballots would be counted by last night. They will probably be finished counting by this afternoon. Remind me when the last ballot was counted after the last US federal election….
I think they are still looking for it.
This is not a contest.
Centralized vote-counting, multiple races being voted on (once in a blue moon, some voters face ballots that resemble a small book), and several states specify that absentee ballots only have to be postmarked by election day.
It’s over now. Three seats short of a majority.
Which means they just need to convince the ndp to vote with them, and they’re good.
Also means that because Poilievre lost he is likely to be ousted as leader of the opposition as he is not a sitting MP. He would also likely lose his taxpayer funded residence.
I don’t see any other Tory MP giving up their seat and then having a by-election over the next few months, so its very likely he will be pushed out by the party.
A truly stunning political fall.
I’ve heard a few MPs are offering to step aside, but haven’t actually seen (or looked) for an actual news story.
My Poilievre supporting friend is telling me he’s going nowhere. That seems pretty consistent with a guy who’s proud of having never changed his mind.
If it weren’t for the insensitivity of it, I might be wondering if there were need for a “Canada = US” thread.
Looks like the Liberals have another seat:
