I think Terra Nova has to have a judicial recount still. I think that’s happening this week.
Wow. I have seen close votes but never a one vote margin. Your vote can make the difference!
Of course this topic is about Canada, but:
These US examples are from small total votes. The Canadian election result referenced over 50,000 votes. Odds are pretty small that a one vote majority would result from over 50K voters!
Looks like the election might not be quite done.: Liberals won Terrebonne, Que., riding by 1 vote — but this woman's Bloc ballot wasn't counted | CBC News
It’s no hanging chad, but… ![]()
How does that work?
If you send in a valid postal vote but it gets sent back due to an error (looks to be on the reveiving end?)
Technically, they did not mark it as received by a specific date so to me it sounds invalid even though it was posted correctly (and in time).
This is the kind of case that will probably set a new legal precedent.
This is a by-election rather than the federal election, but Poilievre has to be feeling some deja-vu:

At this point I agree with Poillierve that the nomination process needs changes to reduce this sort of gaming.
They can get IIRC the same 300 people to sign as many nominations as they want to.
Its not gaming, its protest.
I.disagree that it should be changed. The only people complaining here are the politicians that are being protested.
The much bigger problem is that polliviere was soundly defeated, someone else was elected in this riding, yet hes now running there, will likely get elected and become leader.of the opposition. What a sham. Plus, i dunno what that cost us, but likely millions. And we are trying to roll back people protesting this? No.
One person’s protest is another’s gaming.
300 people signed nominations to put 100 people on the ballot to protest, what? That it’s too easy to put people on the ballot?
If this was the first time they did it, sure, whatever, protest. They’ve been doing it every election for years.
I hereby protest that it’s too easy to pee in the public pool, as proof, i’m peeing in the pool!
I’m amused by the people saying only people who actually want to serve their riding should be allowed to run. Uhmmm… Didn’t Poilievre get tossed from his last riding because he was unresponsive and too focused on federal politics? Sounds like he wouldn’t be qualified to running that standard.
The first past the post voting system. They want a change to proportional rep or STV if I remember correctly.
The UK also seems stuck using the FPTP system as well because the major parties (whom it benefits) keep blocking any electoral reform.
The last election was the most lopsided in history in terms of FPTP results (only 34% of the vote yet 60% of the total seats).
No surprise as the Conservatives could have run a dog in that riding and still won easily.
This guy is a complete tool, the more I see of him the less I like of him.
He’s going to have to make it past the conservative party as well, I think they have to have a leadership election. If they actually re-elect this guy, then there’s nothing left that’s redeemable with the current party - they’ve entirely lost their compass.
The liberals pulled Mark Carney out of nowhere (though granted it was quite a risk). Cons need to do the same thing. Find someone that’s palatable and maybe even likeable by most reasonable people.
I’ve seen a number of stories about how the longer people know Poilievre, the more they dislike him.
The problem is being an obnoxious asshole is seen as a positive by many conservatives these days. “They’re truth tellers”.
Stupidity wasn’t always a desired trait in conservative leaders. but yeah, that’s changed.
Ford could do well federally
