2025-26 Men's College Basketball Discussion

Interesting article about G league players now coming back and playing in College.

Yeah, I respect Izzo a ton, and I think he’s got a VG point here. However, schools have started to scour the lower ranked European pro leagues for players for a few years. So comparatively, taking G leaguers is just a small step.

Going by Saint Kenpom,

I have the last 4 in as SMU, Wisconsin, Creighton, Seton Hall

I have the 1st 4 out as: UCF, Texas, Washington, Texas A&M (let’s hear it for an All-Texas NIT Final)

Also, the only conferences seemingly capable of bid stealing are the A10 and the Mountain West

BYU’s G-Leaguer started his first game on Monday and did an admirable job.

The politics of NCAA eligibility aside, James Nnaji has been a non factor.

To make a complete mockery of the process, when Lebron retires from the NBA I’d like to see him use his NCAA eligibility on a big NIL deal.

I’ve been telling that to my family as a joke for the last few days. Where do you think he would go?

I’m thinking tOSU.

He’s building a new mansion in Beverly Hills. Maybe USC would be a good fit.

tOSU or any other school cannot take Lebron James. There is a caveat about being within 5? years from your HS grad year. {unless he admits he never graduated and goes back and gets a HS diploma, which might actually be possible}

Right now, I think the 4 #1 seeds should go to Arizona, Iowa State, Michigan, and Duke. #2’s right now are Illinois, Houston, Florida, UConn.

However, Michigan visits Champaign at the end of February, and I think an Illini win switches spots for Michigan and Illinois. Admittedly, there’s a lot of ball between now and then, including Illinois at Mich State, and Michigan-Duke, but I still there’s a good chance a #1 seed is on the line on 2/27 at the State Farm Center.

And Iowa State’s Milan Momcilovic is not getting enough love. He’s leading the nation in 3 point attempts, and 3 point percentage.

Florida are ranked 17th on the AP. Where are you getting your rankings from?

On Kenpom they are #7. There are other choices, like Gonzaga, Mich State, Nebraska, Purdue. I am just not certain that the committee will give a 3rd top seed to the Big 10. Gonzaga does not get as much quality competition in the WCC as those in the B10, B12, and SEC.

Note that the list was My Choices, not a prediction of what the committee will assign.

OK, thanks. I should look at that one too.

The AP poll and the USATODAY poll are based on biased opinions of sports writers and coaches, respectively. Kenpom is based on statistics, not opinions, and strategically not on wins and losses. The basis of his projections are points per possession, which can give some odd perspectives.

Why would you think that but think the Big 12 would get 3 top seeds? The top of both conferences are just as good as the other

Fair enough. Allow me to re-phrase. I am not sure that the committee will take as many as 6 teams from 2 conferences named Big X, where X is a member of the set {10, 12}.

Hearing Caleb Wilson broke his thumb today in his first practice back from broken wrist, so tomorrow’s UNC/Duke showdown will be meh, as expected. New expectations however include UNC crashing out of the postseason in spectacular fashion following the morale dump.

March Meh-ness is here!!
I’ll check out the bracket sometime today. Maybe.

So I (really Kenpom, since my data was all based off his data) was pretty accurate. Flip flop IA St and Florida because Cyclones went from EF5 to EF4, while the Gators went from 10 footers to 12 footers. And the Illini showed how inconsistent they could be with Brad Underwood’s “Live by 3, die by 3” strategy - which works great when you make 40% of them and not so great when you make 29% of them.

Florida was a little easier to see coming as the season was underway. Yes, they had some losses but they were still the best team in the best conference, and that was meaningful.

Again, the coaches’s poll and the AP writers’ poll is biased on wins and losses. They actually thought Miami Ohio was good! They’re not. As much as I hate Bruce Pearl, I agree with him when he said they’d be last in the Big East (the weakest power conference)
