This is a really tough call!

This is the only travesty remaining. Re: Wonderful Christmastime and All I Want For Christmas Is You". Two songs that shouldn’t have even made this tournament. They both fall into the good songs that get overplayed and tend to annoy some people. Had to vote for Paul McCartney, because as much as Mariah’s gets played out and becomes annoying, it’s legitimately a really good song.

I wish the seeding was different and they could have faced #1 Band Aid and #4 NKOTB instead.

Reminder to everyone: if you’ve not got your votes cast, get those in soon!

Yawn of a song. Mostly synthesized.

Not a “worst Xmas song” at all. At least Mariah spans several octaves with her singing. And it’s used in a movie to get Ferb and Vanessa together before that show’s finale. That should lock it up.

Yawnish, I can see that. “Worst” is the wrong ballpark.

Bloop single, so not out of the park.

I just heard Justin Bieber’s Little Drummer Boy featuring Busta Rhymes. :grimacing: :exploding_head: :scream:

I already had a Christmas-themed idea (or 3) for a tournament next year, but I guess we could do this again next year with 64 songs (no play-in round!) and then you miscreants have a year to nominate songs and lobby for/against them.

Or, maybe we’ll do both.

I saw this on Facebook today

Looks easy to change to whatever actually-bad song (e.g. the John Lennon one) you’d want to have there instead.

If “some” is big enough, I don’t see why the song shouldn’t qualify

The whole tournament is subjective.

Except for that Xmas shoes song. Wow.

It’s time to wrap up the 2nd round of our “subjective” tournament – but what’s not subjective is the results.

Santa Claus Division
#1 seed NewSong walks to the division final as much-derided “The Christmas Shoes” chases off The Jackson 5’s “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” 14-5. It gets a matchup against John Denver’s equally painful #2 seed, “Please Daddy (Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas) which trounced John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” 14-4, meaning Yoko Ono’s presence in the tournament is over as well.

Jack Frost Division
The Pussycat Dolls coaxed the division’s #1 seed “Santa Baby” to a 9-8 victory over Bon Jovi’s “Back Door Santa” which takes the back door out. Whatever dreadful version I find will pair off against some other dreadful version of the division’s #2 seed, “Baby It’s Cold Outside” which chilled BarbaraStreisand’s”JingleBells”inasimilar9-8score.

Mistletoe Division
It was an unexpected matchup, maybe one the world should never be subjected to again, but Justin Bieber wins everyone’s heart, soul, and disgust as his 5-seed “Mistletoe” fends off Spike Jones, who instead of singing “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” should have asked for 2 more votes. Instead, it’s Bieber moving on 10-9 to take on Gayla Peevey’s “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” which knocked down Lady Gaga’s “Christmas Tree” in a similar 10-9 result.

Bing Crosby Division
#1 seed Band Aid asked “Do They Know It’s Christmas” – and no one knows if they do or not, but they know that song is out of the competition after #4 seed New Kids On the Block funked its “Funky, Funky Xmas” to a 10-7 upset victory. They’ll get the old guy on the block, Paul McCartney, whose #2 seed “Wonderful Christmastime” breezed to a wonderful 12-6 win over Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” giving GoAers the same range of emotions they feel listening to her song.

Polls for the division finals will go up tomorrow morning. As usual, use the time to lobby for/against songs as you need, and berate your fellow GoAers for their votes as needed. Since you’ve all had 2 chances to experience the contenders, I won’t be posting links to songs again except for the Jack Frost Division - because if there’s one thing worse than 2 bad versions of both songs, it’s 3 bad versions of both songs. :smiling_imp:
