Nobody who’s ever eaten Canada goose does so willingly a second time.

Had an entire shit-show over this one time at moose camp when my brother made some wild game stew that included goose. Couple of guys didn’t eat that night, and were quite vocal about it.

Come on. A coyote can’t even catch a stupid bird. You think it’s going to get a cat?

I’ve seen the documentaries.
Iron pellets in the bird seed and using a magnet;
Instant hole.
Painting a tunnel onto a rock face.
TNT
Other various and sundry ACME products.
Nothing works.

Also, cannot catch a rabbit. Super-Genius my ass.

Right on!

We ate Canada goose once when I was a kid and it won’t happen again. The amount of plucking required was ridiculous for the resulting amount of crummy meat.

The only time I had Canada goose was as spicy goose sausage. It was tasty. Of course a good sausage maker can make anything taste good.

Yes. Goose is from the ā€˜its all in how you cook it’.family. which is code for nasty, cover in gravy.

Saw my parents over the weekendā€¦ā€œI watched this video of random online person talk about the debate and he pointed out how Harris didn’t really say anything the entire time and no one really knows anything about her, so I am just not going to vote for either of themā€

Uh…did you watch any part of the actual debate? Trump seemed pretty crazy…oh, nevermind

Their vote wont matter. This ā€œI am basing my vote on this youtube videoā€ is frightening but going to be the reality for the 100M+ voters that did not actually watch any of the debate or are happy outsourcing their decision to social media.

I’ve seen a lot of criticisms of Harris over her lack of policy details both in the debate and on the campaign webpage. Both are significantly greater than what Trump has put forward. And Warren and Clinton both had tons of detail and that didn’t help (people actually criticized Warren for being too detail oriented).

When does an immigrant community get to be xxx-American? I thought at least most of those Haitians they are talking about are immigrants allowed in the US under special rules that allow them to work legally with the right paperwork but are not permanent residents and could be sent back to their country if their country were to be reformed enough for them to be safe?

ā€œA concept of a plan is so much better, and that is why I’m voting for him.ā€

I read any criticism of her and think, ā€œHe’s still worse on all levels.ā€ Like that USA Today opinion/hit piece.

Like when do the folks in Springfield get to be Haitian-Americans rather than just Haitians?

Thinking back on my personal usage I seem to draw the line at whether someone was born in the United States or not.

My MIL is African; FIL is African-American. Both are U.S. citizens but only FIL was born in the U.S. I’m certainly not trying to be disrespectful and no one has ever corrected that usage. In fact, I think when I posted a random anecdote about them on AO one of y’alls (long since forgotten who) asked ā€œout of curiosity… are your in-laws African or African-American?ā€ That seemed to be that poster’s dividing metric as well.

:woman_shrugging:

I also don’t know if the continental ā€œAfrican Americanā€ or ā€œAsian Americanā€ has different rules from country specific ā€œHaitian Americanā€ or ā€œChinese Americanā€.

I’d probably use them in the same way as far as when to add ā€œAmericanā€ on the end or not.

When I was dating a British guy who came to the U.S. as an adult he was ā€œBritishā€ but my BFF whose parents came over from Germany before she was born is ā€œGerman Americanā€. I think I’m consistent when talking about white and non-white people too.

None of that is to say that I’m correct… but that seems to be where I have drawn the line in my personal usage.

I’m definitely inconsistent about whether I hyphenate German-American or not. Probably more often than not I don’t but I know I do it both ways and haven’t noticed any rhyme or reason to when I do or don’t use a hyphen so if there’s some rule I can follow, I’m all ears. (Eyes?)

My vote is we just call all American citizens (and perhaps even green card holders) ā€œAmericansā€ and leave it at that.

Agreed. Anyone thinking that their heritage, or where they or their family are from, is important to anyone else is deluding themselves.

I mean, that’s quite oversimplified: Israel - Hamas War October 2023

Clearly a lot of people assign a lot of value to ethnicity.
