2024 NFL Football Thread

I’m taking a boat to the game.

So you guys really think the Bears numbers people got this wrong because? If they create scarcity they can get more for each seat, right? I feel certain that they have sliced a lot of options in terms of cost to build and chose what works best for them.

…Um, da Bears.
I’m still trying to figure out what happened to the other proposal at the Horse Track in Arlington.

Leaders in northwest suburban Arlington Heights were caught off guard Monday when they got the news of the Bears’ plan to spend $2 billion on a new stadium in Chicago.

Despite the surprise of the team’s apparent change of heart, there was still a lot of hope in the village. Arlington Heights Mayor Thomas Hayes said the village didn’t even receive a courtesy phone call from the Bears about the plan.

In a statement, the village said the Chicago Bears Football Club on Monday spoke with village officials and “confirmed that their continued interest in Arlington Park has not changed.

Uh-huh. Did they mention a bridge they wanted to sell you, too?

Z Wilson must be loving the DEN right now.

Because he can always be high there?

Perhaps, but they just drafted a QB, and he’s on his last year of a rookie deal. It is make or break for him now. He could end his season at the end of training camp. Oh, he’ll get paid and probably picked up to fill a seat in someone else’s QB room.
Would love to have Hard Knocks show DEN this year.

I am not excited by the Falcons taking Penix. It has nothing to do with him.

Why do you pay and keep Heinicke if you plan to draft your QB of the future? Given you structured Cousins’ contract for him to be a starter for a minimum of 2 years, why draft someone in round 1 to hold a clipboard for at least 2 years? Barring Cousins getting injured, Penix is going to be 26 before he sees a start. If MIN was looking to trade up for JJ McCarthy, it’s almost certain ATL had an offer on the table. Trade back a few spots, get some additional picks, and you can still make the bad decision of taking Penix.

Asshat Rodgers and J. Lo. both sat for 2+ years holding clipboards. It just means you’ll end up with a future HoF-er. Solid plan.

I’m more sad that Zach doesn’t get to compete against his twin, J.J.

I hope. Different situations entirely though. Love was a 21 yo who went late in the first round. Rodgers was also younger and generally considered to be a value pick after falling.

I drew a blank on J Lo, so I thought it meant Jared Lorenzen.

Oh are we not talking about Jennifer Lopez?

Of course not! This is an NFL thread, silly. It’s Taylor Swift or bust!

I am not so sure that the Bears are completely out of the Arlington Heights deal.

I think the Bears are trying to set up a bidding war between the suburbs and the City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois’s interests might be in conflict at some point.

I still think that the amount the Bears paid for the 325 acres in AH was a steal. So much so, that they could conceivably just go into the real estate business and make 2B in profit selling new condos in AH, and use the 2B to fund their payment for the lakefront stadium.

This is Illinois politics. Nothing is as simple as it seems. Nothing is decided until all is finished with the politicking, payoffs, ripoffs, briefcases full of cash, arm twisting, quid pro quos, graft, and plausible deniability.

Of course they are.
Surprised murmurs about Oakland or San Diego or (gasp) St Louis are not involved.

That did seem like one of the oddest decisions of D1

the falcons win the night for the confusion they set off. one can argue that the broncos validated (some) the need to take the guy they liked there but they could have signed like any stop gap QB for 2 yrs and 25M (minshew!) if they thought they wanted to draft a guy. just no connection between FA and draft there when both were invested HUGE. the 8th overall pick is a lot of capital to spend on a guy you home doesn’t play for 3 years. (rodgers and love were picked in the 20’s)

rest of R1 was more or less what you’d expect.

I think Aaron Rodgers, down after one set of downs into the season, should remind all teams that QBs can get injured, too. Having a reliable backup QB is important, as, again, the Jets discovered.
Eggs and baskets and such.

No issues with the Falcons taking Penix to have a good backup. They likely could have traded to the Vikings to come up and get JJ and drafted him 3 positions later with an extra pick or 2. The Bears and Jets weren’t taking him and the Jets got a little something for swapping 1 spot. Penix is not in clear. His injury past is not good woth 2 ACLs on same knee and 2 shoulder injuries on non-throwing but serious nonetheless.
