2024 NFL Football Thread

I don’t think anyone is saying that.

I’m going to guess that had it been a white lineman who acted the same as Hill the encounter would have gone quite differently.

Never said that. I don’t think Hill was treated appropriately. I was just stating a fact that compliance might be the difference not race or football vs golf or short vs tall or any other difference we want to throw in there

I’m not sure white is needed there. Have you seen NFL linemen? They are pretty intimidating and likely not the easiest to throw on the ground.

But I know the point you are trying to prove

Ok substitute generic white QB.

Look maybe race had absolutely nothing to do with it, but it seems like there is an overwhelming amount of evidence to suggest that black traffic stop suspects are treated quite differently from their white counterparts. But since this is the sports and not the political tab I’ll refrain from going further down that road.

That’s racist! You should have said generic white WR.

I believe his gender had something to do with it. If the McClaren renter/speeder was a female, she would have been treated differently than Hill. The officer was actually being sexist.

At least Daniel Jones should be used to it

Tua with another concussion

It was nasty. :grimacing: :face_with_peeking_eye: Necks are not supposed to be perpendicular to the rest of their spines. Jaspess couldn’t watch the replay of it. (I’ve always had a morbid fascination with gruesome sports injuries.)

The hit wasn’t that bad. No helmet to helmet no contact of the back of the head against the ground. I could see a neck strain, but a concussion?

Tua needs to consider his future. He seems to be highly susceptible to concussions. Contract or no, the man appears to be in serious danger of severe CTE issues.

I’m not an anatomy expert, but, doesn’t the brain stem extend into the upper neck, making bad enough neck injuries concussion protocol-able?

Tua should hang it up IMO. He’s a good QB, but given his concussion history he should be very concerned about his future health if he keeps playing.

It looked like he was having some sort of seizure after the hit.
Also, he was the one who lowered his shoulder and initiated.

Not a hit that should create a concussion in an otherwise healthy person.

I feel he should retire.

Simply unsustainable. You can’t regularly collide with these monsters and expect the game to be safe.

I remember a 1960 (or so) Life Magazine photo of the four NY Giants defensive linemen boasting that collectively they weighed half a ton……but Rosey Grier contributed about 300 lbs of it.

Random football trivia:

The first football game played west of the Appalachian Mountains was in 1888 between Miami University and the University of Cincinnati. Miami’s President Warfield had been a college football player at Princeton and he both organized and officiated the game (can you imagine that today?)

UC had the size advantage: their average weight of 160 lbs was 20 lbs higher than Miami’s average weight of 140 lbs.

Today’s rosters for those two schools feature players who are… a bit bigger.

New muscled referee on tonight.

Should fix that score bug: HOU with dark font, white background

That CMC extension is looking good.
