Somehow, I had to watch some commercials this weekend. Anyone see the Buffalo slamming on Travis Kelce to Jason Kelce’s face in that BWW commercial?
Should ESPN track all the reviews of The NFL Football League, as they do for VAR for the EPL?
Or would that tweak the NFL Football League Billionaire owners too much?
There was a bizarre officiating moment in the PIT ATL game. PIT passed on 3rd and long, and the ref spotted them just short. The sideline markers were changed to show 4th down. PIT decided to go for it, and got stuffed. The refs then announced the previous play wasn’t 4th down after all, as they got a first down, so now it’s second and 11.
I didn’t see the other movement on the sidelines until this YouTube video. On the Falcons sideline, it always said 4th down. You can see right before the snap that the guy holding the ball marker is moving around on the sideline and appears to just place it wherever. You can see that at some point they changed the PIT side marker to first down, but I am certain it said 4th for a while.
It was clear from the play call that both teams thought it was 4th down. WTF. I do think first down was the correct call looking at this replay, but if you change a ruling that late it should be communicated properly. What a cluster.
Indeed.
Also, I’ll just add, keep in mind that only one of those sideline markers is “official “ at least that’s how it was back in the day.
The TV shows it is a first down, three different ways: on the score bug, the yellow and blue markers, and imprinted on the field. So, some official (or was it merely someone in TV biz watching deciding for everyone?) must have communicated that.
I think the clock should be stopped until the markers, which are actually pretty important for determining strategy, where the ball will be placed if incomplete, etc., are placed properly. Only take a couple of seconds, versus several minutes for injuries, nearly every time out, and 30 seconds wasted doing nothing per play. Which translates to a pretty stupid game to follow, but can’t stop a runaway cult.
Just saying holding up play to move the markers is not expending too much time of that 4 hours.
I did notice that when I saw this video later. In the stadium both teams thought it was 4th down, as did the crowd and the stadium announcers. Physical sideline markers said 4th down, as did the unofficial displays of down/distance. Even the officials randomly moving the sticks presnap seem confused how to handle it. Just bizarre that down and distance were not clear to either team presnap, but were to the broadcast.
I haven’t rewatched the game. I typically don’t, but I might watch just to hear that part of the call live.
Seahawks fans are a small but loyal group. We have largely had the same posters since I started the thread in 2013 on The AF. Our optimism was rewarded with a SB that season. We almost had a repeat the next season but it is too soon to talk about that disappointment.
We remain optimistic as the Seahawks, unlike the Giants, make the playoffs most years. I would like to see the Giants do well as I was a Giants fan in the YA Tittle era. Giants will be for real again, some day.
We need to start a “The Bears are who we thought they were” thread
RIP Denny Green
Eh, not much to discuss there. Oh, we got to see how competent they are in the Hard-Knocks Off-Season show.
President/Owner John Mara walks in the the GM’s office: “Well, how are the trades and the draft analysis going?”
“Good.”
“OK.”
President leaves.
Rooney Mara could have acted that better. Double NFL chops, that one.
I was driving along High Rd the other day and saw his tombstone.
Anyone seen the video of the Tyreek Hill vs cop incident?
Summary: TH just signed a $90M contract extension, so he rented a $1200/day Maclaren to drive to the stadium on opening day. Of course, in his excitement, he disregarded the posted speed limits.
Copy pull him over, then when he rolls up the window on them, they break into the car and drag him to the ground and cuff him.
Ultimately, he got a speeding ticket and a ticket for no seatbelt.
He was on the phone (hands free) the whole time because he was yelling “Drew, they’re arresting me Drew !” (his agent is power agent Drew Rosenhouse.)
I think the cops should get fired. There was no reason to drag him out of the car. They violated his constitutional rights, just because they felt that they could get away with it.
If it were me (and I had virtually unlimited resources like he does) I would sue the MPD for millions for pain and suffering and reputational damage.
Someone should check these guys’ gambling activity for Sunday’s game.
While racism is a strong motivator, money often overtakes.
Give him the stupid ticket. He’s in a half-million dollar hyper car. Speeding tickets are expected.
But hey, the cops go “Hey look, it’s a minority, let’s treat him like he’s a murder suspect, drive his face into the asphalt, and cuff him like he’s Houdini.”
I see why people want to defund the po-lice.
The police were too aggressive. But you should not disobey the police when told to keep your window rolled down. Hill has culpability as well.
I don’t think the Miami police has the authority to force him to vacate his 4th amendment rights against illegal search and seizure.
I don’t think they have a right to force him to roll down his window.
There are civil rights that are guaranteed that police violate all the time.
They cannot search his car after pulling him over for speeding. They can ask him if he will let them, and even demand that he allows them to search, but he constitutionally does not have to comply.
I got real into watching lawyer videos about legal searches on youtube, specifically when my town started doing mandatory sobriety checks on Friday and Saturday nights at the choke points on the streets of my suburb.
You must pull over when flashed. You must provide ID when accused of a crime (and speeding would qualify as a crime), but you do not have to allow a search. The cops demanding visual access after he provided his driver’s license is not legal, IMHO, but IANAL.
Cops are used to intimidating people into waiving their constitutional rights. They should be fired for doing so.
He was being a jackhole about it.
He drops the window a bit:
“Don’t rap on my window” six or seven times, interrupting the cop over and over. Then he closes the window all the way instead of opening it, then he refuses to open it again.
WTF are the cops supposed to do?
They pull him out, cuff him on the ground.
They stand him up, take him to the curb, tell him to sit on the curb.
He refuses again.
Again, WTF are the cops supposed to do?
They push him into a sitting position.
These are the actions of a privileged person, thinking that he is above the law (which he might be, in MIA) and doing whatever the fuck he wants at a police traffic stop.
He thinks he the dominant male here. I see three other motorcycle cops backing this first guy up.
MIA Police released that footage because it was standard procedure. Probably will be used in instruction, on how not to beat up or kill a suspect just because he is black, on how to keep your body cam on, because it is your defense against whatever story will be made up.
Also, it’s rented, oh, and he just made bank. Why TF does he care if they break the window? Not the Hill he should die on, IMO.
Issue him a ticket(s) and then let him go.
They are not allowed to manhandle him because he refused to waive his rights.
It doesn’t matter if he didn’t know about the 4th amendement, and he only expected special privlige as an NFL player. He is still protected by the constitution.
Yup. And he refused by closing the window and not reopening it.
I think you watched the same footage as I.
Is he allowed to take as long as he wants to show his ID (and possibly proof of Insurance, though it is FL, no idea about the law there, and registration), which is probably not where he thinks it is, since not his car)?
