My band was playing tonight, but there was a TV to the side of where we were set up, so I got to watch bits and pieces of tonight’s game. (The bartender, who I asked to turn on the game, said “Aren’t you supposed to be working?”) Except I missed the exciting conclusion. I saw the game was 3-2, then the next time I looked up, they were interviewing someone from the Dodgers. I discovered I’m rooting for the Dodgers in this one.
I have no horse in this race so last night’s WS opener did not disappoint, an exciting game to watch.
Great game last night. Some crazy stuff like the fan interference on what could have been a home run (might have just bounced off the top of the wall - we’ll never know)
As a lifelong SF giants fan I was conflicted. Props to Freddy though. That was shades of Kirk Gibson when he hobbled around the bases against the A’s
I was ironic that it was a Yankees fan that might have cost them the game.
Pretty sure he was wearing dodger gear.
Just looked at replay and you are correct. Our announcers said Yankees fan
Surprised you haven’t pointed out that a Canadian hit the first walk-off grand slam home run in WS history.
Freeman’s parents are both Canadian but he was born in the US: he has dual citizenship. After last night I am happy to view him as a Canadian but he also plays on our national team.
….just trying to think if there was another time when a fan reached over the wall of a big Yankee game and it worked out for them. Things even out.
Jeffrey Meyer will never need to buy a drink on New York. But I don’t think Gleyber’s ball was going out with that fans help, they made the right call,
I was coming here to say that was the worst intentional walk I had ever seen.
But I did not realize 1st base was open for the Betts intentional walk. The Verdugo catch was amazing, but I was watching the game delayed (and skipping) so I didn’t catch the commentary about the runners moving up automatically when a player leaves the field.
Maybe I would have pitched around Betts? But I really don’t know. Tough call.
Glad to see Shohei Ohtani wasn’t injured too bad. Not that he has done as much as expected so far, but at least he will still have a chance to try.
It is a baseball tradition for a local rapper to throw out the ceremonial first dis.
New phone. Who dis?
OK. I guess I’m pulling for LA more than I expected. While I don’t enjoy the matchup, I decided I would quite enjoy a sweep of the Yankees.
These douchebags should get a lifetime ban.
I made the same comment when I saw that. Just pathetic.
Criminal charges for assault and battery. Could have injured the player. Additional penalty: CWS season tickets and fan gear.
I heard one suggestion they might be banned from Yankee Stadium which I would agree with. At least one guy (they guy kicked out, who grabbed Betts’ glove) is a season ticket holder so he should never be allowed to own a season ticket or attended a game in person at the stadium or any MLB stadium for that matter. In the Yahoo article I read they quote the guy’s brother calling out Betts for swearing at them and another fan condoning it calling the guy a “hero”.
I’d suggest those fans should also be banned from Yankee stadium. And the 2 guys who put hands on Betts definitely should be charged with assault.
