I’m still hoping for Det, KC, and SD.
I believe that was Atlanta
Yeah you are correct. Met’s were 6 seed but they clinched G161 while Atl clinched 162.
I was surprised Sterling had such a long career with the Yankees, as he was pretty bad here in Atlanta
Weren’t they Braves terrible for much of that period?
They were bad for most of it.
In 1982 they won 13 in a row to start the season and won the west. Joe Torre was the new manager then.
Those were also the peak Dale Murphy years. He was amazing during that stretch
Braves fired a few guys on the coaching staff today. That’s not too surprising given an underachieving season.
One of the guys fired was catching coach Sal Fasano. One of his quirks: before MLB moved to electronically printed lineup cards a while back, he created cool lineup cards.
That’s very cool. Are the colors for L/R/Switch hitter?
I believe so
yes and no. Such an injury riddled season, you might think they would get a break
and still made playoffs
The injury luck was indeed quite bad, but for the most part the bats did not perform when they were in the lineup. Certainly there were a couple of exceptions to that like Ozuna.
And of course they kept Snitker.
Cleveland forces G5 v Skubal
yanks put away KC
Hmm. I’m not hoping for them anymore.
OK, now I want Cle and NYM, although my motivation to pay any attention at all is decreasing, given the choices.
Let’s go Cleveland!
Another subway series looming?
I remember fondly the last subway series, when nobody outside NY watched and it set record low ratings. For all the media’s hyping of the major markets and whining about the possibility of a smaller market getting in the World Series, may it backfire on them again.
Part of that was probably 2 teams from the same market and geographic area for sure, but it also follows a trend in baseball as it has since been past many times as it now ranks a 20th worst with last year being the new lowest. Based on average per game viewership.
If you look at the top 10 they are all from the 70s and 80s
If you look at the bottom 10 they are all for the 2010s or 2020s with the only exception being the 2008 series with Philly v Tampa as 9th worst. And the last 4 starting with the 2020 pandemic are the 4 worst.
I suspect the MLB TV exces are hoping for Dodgers/Yankees to get both of the two largest TV markets interested. The prior Yankee/Dodgers series in 78, 81, 77 still rank as the 1st, 4th and 5th most watch series by average viewership.
Technically two of the worst WS ever were the 92-93 games in which the Blue Jays played. Since the Jays are in Canada, the numbers don’t count for the Nielsen ratings.
Definitely. This is as good a final as tv could hope for.
