What’s with all the LAD fans in the ATL?
That is a lot of industry transfers.
Maybe it is just a bad mic mix on ESPN.

I thought the White Sox were bad enough, but, sure enough, the White Sox seem to be blowing it against the other bad teams. 3 more wins will prevent them from reaching the % record. 5-6 will still get them the loss record.

Maybe they don’t want to break this record.

Record setting season on the making

By coincidence, today the White Sox’ record hit exactly on the record for the team with the current modern record low for % - 36-117. The White Sox will have to do a slightly worse % than that the rest of the way, of course, to get the record.

5-4 or worse gets them the loss record
2-7 or worse gets them the % record

3 @ SD
3 Angels
3 @ Detroit

For a REALLY long shot - 9 rainouts would give them a tie for the record.

Mets were 40 - 120, so I see keeping it under 5 wins as important

41 - 121 would imo make Mets worse

Congrats on the Yankees clinching a playoff berth due to 2 games of dumb baserunning by the Mariners.

WTF was Julio Rodriguez thinking in the 10th?

The night before the final was 11-2 so the 1st inning brain cramp may not have mattered but it sure didn’t hurt.

Yankees and Brewers both clinched playoff spots yesterday
Phillies and Guardians could clinch today both have magic numbers of 2

The Motor City Kittens have to be baseball’s biggest story right now as they are just a half game behind the Twins after sweeping KC. They traded their 2nd best pitcher at the deadline and I think their playoff odds were under 1% on August 1.

Nice. So at least 3 of the 9 remaining WS games are against a motived opponent.

Chris Sale set a new MLB record with 18 straight starts allowing 2 runs or fewer.

Ohtani is a 50-50 man

In other words, he’s basically a coinflip?

More or less.

Again, in the same game (also accomplished 40 and 40 in the same game).
And, only member of 51-51 club.

Definitely a weird “record”, given starting pitchers today pitch limited innings. Though players are also better at fouling off pitchers. MLB has too many statistical oddities.

Bob Gibson had 11 straight starts in 1968 allowing 1 run or less (all complete game victories)

Agree that it’s very hard to compare many baseball stats across different eras, and this is certainly one of those stats. Still pretty impressive to put together a streak like that vs peers that also usually just go 7IP when pitching well.

It’s pretty remarkable given his total inconsistency of availability over the last 6 years. He is Cy Young worthy in his age 35 season , when he’s missed most of his starts over the last 5 years. Although he made 20 starts in 2023, he was only 6-5 and 4.30 ERA

Whenever he’s pitched, he’s been good to great. The issue is not ability, it’s availability.
