Today’s White Sox fact: The White Sox home run leader plays for Kansas City

White Sox update

To get the loss record: no better than 8-9 (.471)

To get the % record: no better than 5-12 (.294)

YOU CAN DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Go Sox Go!

Right now all teams are under .600. How many seasons have finished like that? CWS record seems to make that even rarer.

ETA
8 times if I am tallying right.
1926
1958
1982 (worst best record 95-67 .586 MIL. worst record that year MIN 60/102)
2000
2006
2007
2010
2013

On the flip side, there have been 11 seasons with 3 or more teams with 100 wins. The last 6, 2017 2018 2019 2021 2022 2023. Granted that’s harder with 16 teams than 30.

Unfortunately, they have 6 games remaining against the Angels, 3 against the A’s and the final 3 against Detroit who will most likely be eliminated by then. I think it’s still a long shot for them to break the % record.

Yeah, I don’t have a lot of confidence in their ability to continue to lose when the record is on the line.

But GM Chris Getz apparently kind of does and that was the topic of sports radio here this morning: "Now if you would have told me prior to the year we would have ended up with over 100 losses, 105/110, I would not have been as surprised. " I find it hard to believe that any GM would think their team would lose 110 games. I guess that’s just a sign that he knew before the fact that he was going to dump any salary he could this year.

In fairness, he preceded this with saying he would have been “a little surprised” if they were heading for the record.

'62 Mets interviewed on how they felt about the possible breaking of the worst record record -

they said they didn’t want to see it broken - but not for the usual reason

They don’t want any other ball player to have to go through the experience

Or a 154-game schedule

Oh, that’s really nice! At least the Mets had the excuse of not having been in existence the previous year. I was just wondering if any players from 1962 made it to the 1969 championship team. It turned out there were at least two, as one of them, Ed Kranepool, just died yesterday and the article I saw on it has a quote from another, Cleon Jones.

I don’t believe Jones was a Met until '63.

Al Jackson was on both teams.

Jones was in the minors all season, but got called up in September

ok, i see no evidence he ever was in a game

It would be interesting to see how that team (1969, not 1962) was build, chronologically.

Oh. I misread. Right, he didn’t appear until the next year. Sorry.

White Sox update

To get the loss record: no better than 8-7 (.533)

To get the % record: no better than 5-10 (.333)

So if they can lose each remaining series 1-2, both records will be achieved. That no longer sounds like a big stretch.
