Something to cheer about! Better than just having a middling team like my Jays.
Just remember @vjvj , The BAL Orioles had six straight seasons with over 90 losses in the '00s, and then three straight full seasons of 100+ losses, 2018-2021 (thanks COVID!).
Look at them now: sixth best record in the MLB, second in the AL East.

in the same week a player played for both teams in same game, we had a player receive an intentional walk and get called out for (checks notes again) failing to touch 1b.

My guesses:
-if walked runner advances (imagine it also a passed ball or just a steal) to 2nd without touching 1st, then they can’t go back to touch 1b and can be put out right away w an appeal
-if they turn towards 2nd w intent to advance and never touched 1b they become live. even if pitcher did or did not engage rubber (so if pitcher engages and picks them off as they have a lead, that lead is intent to advance and makes them live)
-if they haven’t reached the base and another pitch is thrown (so runner stands 85 feet from home while next pitch is thrown) I think they could be put out bc the time between was PLENTY of time to allow the base award to be completed. but they’d have to be tagged while standing off the bag bc after the successive pitch the appeal of missing a base is gone and so merely touching the base isn’t allowed. you’d have to get them for the bonkers negative lead they are maintaining 5 feet short of 1B and tag them out.
maybe OBR is different, but that’s how I imagine HS rules would take it

I mean, if the walked batter literally walks to first, can he be called out for wasting time?
the prior incident was pretty interesting too, in which a batter throws his bat, waves his hands in the air (seems like he cares), and slams his helmet to the ground. Batter is ejected. Now, we don’t know why the batter did all that, but the umpire seems to know. If I were the umpire, I think I’d wait to see if any emanations from his lungs via his larynx occur. Heck, I give that batter the ol’ VAR signal, check it for yourself, jackass. Then, when I was proved right, tell the stadium people to put it up on the big screen. But, that is why I’m not an umpire.
there is always the “making a travesty of the game” allowances within the rules i suppose.
i guess the IBB declaration in MLB has to be dead ball now (compared to regular BB or old IBB which is live). so time was out and how long within that dead ball time do you give the runner? and yet he still didn’t make it. umpire judgement of when he abandoned his attempt OR if replacement runner has taken position on the base.
prior strike out ejection in the video could have been a warning. guy got dinged for 2 warning level events within a second and neither had the warning issued. throwing the equipment gets a warning (where the ump just points at the batter and that’s the warning - did not occur here) and the histrionics (“showing them up”). but i’d chalk that guy to frustration unless he yelled something bad or stared the ump down while doing the stuff (did not see him do that).
so there was an earlier season ejection where the batter throws his bat and umpire silently points (meaning that’s the warning) but the player had his back to the umpire. player then throws helmet and having already been warned got ejected and was surprised. players don’t know the rules and enforcement so well it seems. or don’t care.
Playing a game when you don’t know the rules is the ultimate of stupidity, IMO.

As a soccer referee, I see this every single week, but it’s the coaches. Players are young and learn the rules over several years, and I won’t chastise them. Coaches, though THINK they know the Rules when a) they are Laws, and b) they don’t. Some are new at this, so it’s an opportunity to learn.

A smart MLB Baseball player, if they exist, would politely tell the umpire that “I am upset at myself,” then throw his helmet and bat.

A weekend baseball radio show was quite funny as they focused on the White Sox. I’d been wondering about other records and how they’d fit in. Their run differential of -300ish seemed high (well, low), but it turned out way back when there was a team that was below -700.
One thing I didn’t remember is how Detroit got their 119 losses and avoided hitting and breaking the Mets’ modern record for losses. Detroit was right on the White Sox’ pace, but won 5 of 6 to close out the season and avoid holding the record. Let’s hope the White Sox don’t have that in them. Coincidentally, the White Sox close the season against Detroit.

Went to the White Sox game with my dad and my 3 year old daughter on Saturday. Weather was perfect and she had a ton of fun eating hot dogs, dip-n-dots and hanging in the kid zone. We even caught one of the shirts they were throwing into the stands! Daughter had a blast. I had no idea the kid zone was so extensive up there. She can throw the ball about halfway to the targets. We’ll save batting cages and racing louis robert until she gets a bit older. She kept saying yesterday that she wants to go to more baseball games.
All told we probably only watched 2 innings of baseball. Traffic was bad and they were already down 3-0 when we got there in the bottom of the 1st. Daughter has now been to 2 baseball games: the one Saturday where they tied their franchise loss record at 106 and the game last year where they lost so bad they fired Kenny Williams and GM Rick Hahn the next morning. With our luck we’ll go to a game next year and they’ll announce they’re moving to Nashville

Sorry to overload on White Sox content, but here’s another record. To be fair, he doesn’t get much run support. Also to be fair, he sucks. Should be a great fit for the bullpen.
Made me think of Anthony Young who lost 27 consecutive decisions (mostly bad luck), his ERA was maybe around 4.00
