2024 Fantasy Football

Our current format is 6 teams make the playoffs, based on win-loss, than total points as tiebreaker. 1 seed plays the lowest seed in the semifinals. Even before these matchups, I was toying with changing the rules next year to say, higher seed chooses their opponent in the playoffs (so 3 seed in the quarters and 1 seed in the finals). In this case, I would have chosen the 2 seed, who fluked his way into the second best record, and is the person who put up 92 points this week.

My opponent thinks we should consider top 2 scores move on in the quarters and semis.

Part of me wants to make it more merit based, but I don’t think I want to fully lose the matchup aspect of fantasy football. Sure it’s frustrating when you lose in a situation like this, but it’s also part of the “fun” of it.

I have unfortunately been on the wrong side of variance in the 18 year history of this league. With the most total points in the 18 year history of the league, but zero championships. If I lose this week, and then put up a monster final week, it will be the perfect microcosm of the league’s history.

Eh, playoffs are not optimal for determining the best team.
It determines the champion of a tournament.

I’ve been in ffl’s that give an extra prize for the high score of the week, as well as a smaller prize for the highest scoring loser if the week. That spreads the buy-in around a bit more equitably, i think.

Well, I went with the wrong guys. Rolled with Rodgers (over Love) and Etienne (over R Stevenson), and I lost the finals by 1 stinking point (actually 2 since he had tie-breaker). Both of our teams were total duds and the final score was 87-86.

I am highly likely to make the finals, as I just need McManus to score under 21.75. My opponent and I put up much higher scores than the other semifinal. I’m at 145, and he’s at 123 plus McManus.

One fortunate thing about getting in the playoffs with the worst record in this league: waiver priority resets weekly where priority goes from worst record to best. I got to pick up Jerome Ford and started him. Had I not, I’d be sweating the game tonight.

I put up 110 this week: no PPR, no defense/ST, and my TE suddenly was Out this week,(Otton, TB).
Got 21 from K (Sanders, MIA).
JJ made up for Aaron Jones, though both led to SEA demise.

anyone know if espn leagues that usually run waivers/pickups on thursdays will do so on wednesday this week? i can’t find the answer on the site

I managed to survive my semi-final matchup despite starting Jalen Hurts. Atlanta D/ST (streamer!) put up huge numbers, and my opponent had Josh Allen who threw up a dud at just the wrong (for him) time.

I’m a big underdog going into the finals, especially if Hurts remains so…

Add/drop still shows WA (thu) on ESPN and CBS. Fortunately I didn’t want to pick anyone up for Hou/KC or Bal/Pit but I did want to drop Tank Dell. On CBS, I was able drop Dell today to open up a roster spot. Otherwise on Thursday, Dell would have shown as not droppable because of the Wed game.

With CBS, there is an option in the settings to change the waiver period. ESPN has a setting for “waiver period”, so I bet your commissioner can change it for this week, then change it back in a few days.

Pick one DST:
LAC @NE
MIA @CLE

I despise this approach.

This is one step away from removing all head to head games and just giving the championship to whoever scores the most points through week 17.

One year I did a season long “Bad Beats” prize that was ~25% of the buy-in.
You got a “bad beat” if your losing score would have won at three of the other matchups (12 team league).

It only lasted a year, but I thought it was fun.

My gut is LAC, but Maye has been playing well.

Ugh, that Houston offense last night may have done me in.

I started Collins in 1PPR (i coukdnt bring myself to bench him).
I look forward to Tee Higgins and Shakir mocking him from the bench.

In the finals and my lineup is nearly 100% set.
Questions only at the top & bottom
RB: Cook & K. Williams
WR: JSN & Lamb (and Collins)
TE: Mcbride

.QB? Had been rolling with Tua, but I am tempted by Geno or Bryce Young

DST?
IND@NYG
LVR@NOR

I would have won this. Just checked and 5 of my 7 losses were bad beats using this definition

One of my leagues does an extra prize for top scoring team each week and I generally like it. Beyond the equity issue, it also provides a weekly incentive for the teams that are out of it to keep being active on the waiver wire to swing for weekly high score.

I’d probably go with Tua and have a backup plan (Bryce) ready if some of the MIA WRs sit out. Geno is tempting but he’s from “your team”. In a weird tiebreak scenario, the SEA game tonight actually means next-to-nothing. They need LAR to lose Saturday to make their rematch matter…that’s it. If both SEA and LAR win this week, SEA will not get in due to losing the “strength of victory” tiebreak .

I’d start IND defense, but seems like a coin flip.

I’m in my own QB hell, so I know your pain. My league gives 0 points for QB rush yards but rewards all TDs. I successfully benched Stroud, but my other QB is Murray @LAR. I am probably overthinking it if I pick up Rudolph @Jax or Bryce @TB.

IND

I agree you are overthinking it a bit. Those QB’s do have better matchups, but also not beyond laying a big egg.

We also do top scoring each week ($10)
And regular season high score ($25 this year)

This league is all HS friends + a couple partners. 12 teams and $60 buy-in.

Amusingly, the $25 regular season high score went to someone that:
1 - Didn’t make the 6-team playoff
2- Didn’t have weekly high score once in the 14 week regular season.

He looks like he is going to win the consolation bracket, and another $25. Lol
