2024-25 English Premier League discussion

Second, I was Assistant Refereeing a match of U12 Girls. One team had an awesome thrower-iner.
In their attacking third, this player would throw-in the ball into the Goal Area. Several (three or four) of her teammates would be lined up in offside positions in the Goal Area, because there won’t be Offside called directly from a throw-in. Either one of them punches it in, or they get a rebound off a defender, which will ALSO not be called Offside.

This reminded me: I haven’t seen anyone try a flip throw in / handspring throw in for ages.

My older son could really launch a throw-in in HS. I remember one that connected on the fly for a header goal. That is a great memory for me.

Throw ins was a specialty of mine due to long arms. I had 2 that went in with only keeper touching ball. They would likely have been OGs in EPL but got credit for them. One keeper called me “The Catapult”.

Going back to the Brentford article, isn’t BHA a better example of a lower payroll club that is running itself exceptionally well. They stay up, sell players, have made Europe and are always a competitive game with a good style of play.

Today would have been nice if Wolves pulled the draw. Wild ending with 3 corners in a row. Strong Liverpool performance. 10 wins in 12 for Arne.

Wolves wanting VAR to be abolished on 5, 4, 3…

Geez Forest, control yourselves, from players to coaches to owners:

And the world is now back to normal.

Am very surprised he lasted this long.

Man Utd is all over the place as a team. Its painful to watch because they had a very good team in the 90s when I watched a few of their games in the UK.

Probably were having a hard time finding someone to fill the role while not being able to get the players they want, at the salary they are willing to pay. And, it seems, still are.

I am just hoping they continue making the needful decisions. Letting go of Fergie was very important for me coz he has too big a personality there. They also needed to let Erik go. Now they need football managed by the professionals and get ineos and the glazers to do minimal interference. They have had a period of inconsistent decision making and I think it is coz of the ownership getting too involved.

Not sure who would want the job. At this stage, they should just go w some like Rio or Rooney. Forget experience or results. Go w someone that connects to winning and tradition there. They have lost their way. They need someone fans will rally behind that could potentially use that support to pressure management/ownership. Might not work but retread is terrible. Southgate shouldn’t touch it. This team isn’t close.

How MCI keep producing talent.
Wait, they do not really explain that in the article.
So,

  1. Have an academy.
  2. Um…
  3. Profit!
How Man City's remarkable academy keeps producing talent - ESPN
A lot of it, I think, is scouting for natural talent. That cannot be taught. Then, food, specific exercises and training, rest, and learning. Doesn’t note if this is a cost to the players’ families or what, as it is in the USA.

Personal Note: I hate being blunt to the parents of “talent” I see on the weekend (I want to do so in order to lower their expectations of their kids’ potential success as well as lower their aggressiveness toward the officials, because it is honestly not that important to get their point across publicly and loudly about a volunteer Referee’s abilities), but none of the kids (OK, maybe a few out of 1500) I see will have soccer careers. Heck, they can go to any local club match at the same level and see how much better those kids are. We put on a program to get your kids off their asses and out in the sun, breathing hard, and sweating. Maybe they’ll play some soccer in the process.

City lost today to Bournemouth. Fantastic result.

Mo with a classic winner. Nice pass, one touch on to left foot, high far side winner. Crazy that he can do that so much.

Villains-Spurs a big game this am for Spurs. They are losing touch with Champions League. Who had NF ahead of Arsenal 10 games in? Before last weeks game,Arsenal had lowest odds on title. Not so this am. Forest down from +75000 opening to +12000 (lower than ManU at +16000).

Spurs looked good today but they are so inconsistent.

Not sure if Forest is for real but they have been impressive.

I was planning to watch the Fulham Wolves game on the 23rd but Arsenal is playing Forest same day. Very hard choice.

I assume you are mocking Fulham but they are actually an entertaining team to watch. And their stadium is a great place to watch a match.

MCI in a free fall.
