It is 2 years, but you plant that seed now and then put up reminders over time. Republicans did this with great success on a number of things: plant an idea, hammer away at it repeatedly so it takes you and grows in people’s minds.
The truth isn’t as important as the constant repetition. Again, Republicans have learned this which is why they don’t care about lying. The repetition makes the lie true. Democrats have to learn this and use it against Republicans.

Who knows, President Musk strokes his ego and I could see him letting it stay.
We’re all foreseeing a flaming Trump/Musk meltdown, which is very possible, but as long as both men make obscene amounts of money I don’t see that their breakup is necessary.
Still likely, given Trump’s paper ego, but not necessary.

Foreign media are painting this as a huuuuuge embarrassment for Musk/Trump. Regardless of their reasons, I am just pleased that 38 members of his own party were not intimidated by his threats and voted against the Musk bill.

What amuses me about this kerfuffle is Musk complains a lot about unelected civil servants influencing policy. He was not elected and he is influencing policy to the extent of probably leading to a shutdown.

In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump said getting rid of the debt ceiling entirely would be the “smartest thing it [Congress] could do. I would support that entirely.”
Musk spent two years at my Alma Mater in Engineering and Queen’s used to be quite proud of the connection as evidenced in the 2013 article below.
However they have gone silent on the connection since he went political a few years ago.

Be interesting to see what Musk and Trump come up with before the next shutdown.
I haven’t seen a non-paywalled description yet of the details, but have seen people say that Trump didn’t get his 2 year debt ceiling extension, Musk did get some restrictions on Tesla’s trade with China lifted, and the pediatric cancer research money got cut, which presumably means that some large bucket of new spending was nerfed. So Musk wins, everyone else loses.
