2022-23 English Premier League discussion

Only four points separate the bottom nine teams in the EPL. The battle to avoid relegation this year should be interesting.

Watching Newcastle-Man U this weekend. Tie would be ok but a Newcastle loss is possibly better for Tottenham’s chances for fourth place. Liverpool has a tough assignment this week.

Just checked the TV listings. That is the only 4:30AM (PDT) match and it’s not on USA Channel! Dammit, I AM NOT GETTING PEACOCK!! Gonna check the Spanish-language stations…

I joined the Liverpool supporters club here in Vegas and they watch games at McMullan’s pub. Decent place with good food. However, it is 25 mins to get there so there are times when I would have preferred to watch game closer to home in Summerlin. Strangely enough the last time Liverpool were only on Peacock, I went to one sports bar and they do not carry Peacock, called 3 others and they didn’t and Red Rock casino only had one small TV on in the sportsbook. The 430 AM start is a little early to drive a half hour to even if it is City. It would be incredible to get 9 pts from City, Chelsea and Arsenal in 8 days.

Would you settle for six??

I would take 6. City and Chelsea.

Yes it would be incredible. If Liverpool was chasing only Spurs they would have a good shot at 4th but they have to either pip Newcastle or Man U as well.

Don’t be mean.

In case anyone doesn’t have Peacock, here are the highlights:

Wow, I didn’t think it would be that big. Sorry if that hurts to see.

Oh, and Potter sacked by CHE. Cuz they can.
Maybe Potter can pick up a third team in one season. Now wondering if that has ever happened.

As a biased observer, I felt that Rodri should have gotten a second yellow for the pull-back on Gakpo. (Yes Fabinho and Trent could have gotten carded earlier too.) I have never been impressed by Simon Hooper (I think that’s his name) on any match he’s reffed.

Liverpool started great. Played well for 25 minutes. Rodri should have gotten second card. Don’t like the direction of TAA at the moment. He is getting way to chippy as part of lazy D. Not thrilled with starting Jota over Nunez at the moment. Would have been fine with Firmino as he creates different issues with other teams’ possession and Liverpool was under 40% most of game.

ManU can’t score which is great. Chelsea has spent an incredible amount of money to not score. Potter will go to a lesser team trying to avoid relegation. Leeds would have been perfect. Leicester or NoF would be candidates.

Man U, Newcastle and Tottenham tied for third but Tottenham has played two more matches. Spurs continue to drop points: blown leads in the 90th or later minute in the last two matches against teams struggling to avoid relegation. Looking like they will do no better than Europa League competition next year.

Meanwhile, way down below, social media darlings Wrexham have 100 points with six matches to play, and STILL have not clinched promotion (one team is promoted directly, while another is promoted via six-team play-offs).

Two absolute howlers given up by West Ham vs Newcastle. Magpies up 4-1 now.

It has been 20 years since Newcastle qualified for Champions League play so I won’t begrudge them their success even if it is at the Spurs’ expense.

LIV help MCI.
MCI still need help even when they beat ARS.
Let’s see: WHU, SOU, CHE, NEW, BHA, NOT, WOL

Maybe NEW. Probably not CHE.
The rest are close to the Moon Door.

They just beat Notts 3-2 in an absolutely crazy game.

Wrexham goalie saved a penalty in added time 95th minute

They have a huge online following now because of the tv series

Liverpool is basically done for.

They need serious investment into their midfield. Additionally, TAA is awful at defending and VVD is not as good as he used to be after his injury (which means he cannot cover for TAAs defciencies)

They had a good run. Now its back to being a mid-table team until they can get a working midfield.

Six Premier league clubs will play in a summer series tournament in the US this year. There will be a double header in ATL on July 26th. Brentford vs Brighton, followed by Newcastle vs Chelsea.

Other expected teams are Aston Villa and Leeds, but apparently Leeds is out of the series if they get relegated.

More of the schedule released so far.
